Police at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala have arrested and detained the driver of a motor vehicle, registration number UAZ 515C, identified as Mukwaya Issac, who made a deliberate attempt to run over a traffic officer on Kampala Road.

According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the incident was caught on camera and has been making rounds on social media.

“The incident was captured in a video circulating on social media, wherein our officer was attempting to stop the vehicle, but instead of complying with the directives, the driver chose to endanger the life of the police officer,” he said.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson.

Onyango said that Mukwaya made an effort to trick the authorities by acting ill when he was brought in for interrogation.

However, according to Onyango, it was discovered after a thorough investigation that he was in good health and had knowingly placed the cannula in his hand. Thus, Mukwaya was arrested and is being detained at CPS Kampala.

Mukwaya has been charged with three offenses: disobeying traffic signals, reckless driving, and attempted murder, Onyango said.

The officer, who narrowly escaped being struck by the vehicle, has been identified as Katongole Josam.

The police urge the general public, particularly motorists, to adhere to the instructions provided by traffic officers.
