Makerere University Student Suspended Over Illegal Protest

A student at Makerere University has been suspended for coordinating an illegal protest.

The university vice chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, referred to his act as indiscipline and against the university rules.

The student identified as Adonia Kizza and his other allies yet to be identified reportedly engaged in disruptive conduct, including beating fellow students and distracting teaching and learning activities within the university during the illegal period, according to authority.

“I hereby suspend you from Makerere University with immediate effect and until further notice, when you will be invited for interactions and further discussions in regards to the matter on a date yet to be communicated by the University Disciplinary Committee,” Prof. Nawangwe said in his letter.

In March 2022, eight students were suspended from the university over violent clashes.
