The Guild President of Makerere University Lubega Nsamba (NUP) has requested President Museveni to set a time and lecture students on ideological orientation.
Lubega said that a large group of youths are currently facing a lack of ideological capabilities.

Lubega, who is also a youth leader under the National Unity Platform (NUP), made these remarks during the restoration of the Makerere University iconic ivory tower and installation of the new university Chancellor, an event that took place on October 2, 2024, at the Square, Makerere University.

He said that students would appreciate the guidance and lecture from President Museveni on ideology, stating that it’s one of the major issues that has led to a decrease in patriotism among the youth.

“His Excellence, I request that you create some time off your schedule to come and lecture students on IDEOLOGICAL ORIENTATION, which will help to boost patriotism among the youth. One of the problems faced by the youth in Uganda is lack of ideology,” he stated.

Lubega also expressed his appreciation to President Museveni for the funds that facilitated the reconstruction of the Makerere main building, as well as Lumumba Hall and Mary Stuart Hall, and for the improvement in student welfare.

“President, we want to appreciate the excessive funding that you and Mama Janet have provided to the university to facilitate renovation and student welfare,” he added.

The restoration of the Makerere University iconic ivory tower comes after the devastating fires that destroyed the building in September 2020.
