The 90th Makerere University Guild President, Lubega Nsamba, has reported that he has started receiving strange threatening phone calls and text messages suspected to be from the National Unity Platform (NUP) party foot soldiers asking for his whereabouts since Wednesday evening, October 2, 2024.
Nsamba said that the callers use abusive words and claim to be monitoring his movements, and that they are promising to inflict harm on his life. He has since reported the matter to Makerere University Police Station, seeking intervention and protection.
“Since yesterday evening, several strange persons have been calling and texting me, promising to make a statement on my life. One of the callers claimed to be a resident of Katanga and knows where I reside. I have reported these threats to police because I can’t take them lightly,” Lubega said.
These threats follow Lubega’s comments during the reopening of the iconic Main Building and the installation of the new Chancellor at Makerere University on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. He was praising President Museveni’s visionary leadership and earmarking funds to reconstruct and renovate historical buildings like the main building at the oldest university in the Great Lakes region.
Lubega also requested the President to spare time on his busy schedules and give ideological orientation lectures to Makerere University students. He added that ideological disorientation and mindset change are the major challenges affecting the youths in communities.
“One of the challenges that developing societies are facing is a lack of an ideology. Your Excellence, I request that you spare time on your busy schedules and come back to Makerere to give us ideological lessons,” he noted.
Following Lenia Charity, the former Makerere University Business School Guild President, Lubega is the second students’ leader subscribing to the National Unity Platform to publicly praise and show their support to Museveni’s leadership.
