The interim leader of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), Erias Lukwago, has declared a do-or-die drive to dismantle Robert Kyagulanyi and the entire team of the National Unity Platform party, NUP, out of Buganda for disrespecting Kabaka and his leadership.

Lukwago expressed disappointment with the NUP, accusing the party leaders and supporters of continuously attacking Buganda Kingdom officials, including the King himself, instead of addressing key issues affecting the people of Buganda.

While interacting with journalists at his office in Kampala on Monday, November 4, 2024, Lukwago noted that the Buganda kingdom was pivotal in mobilizing support for the NUP, and it’s the reason why close to 99 percent of their supporters are only from the region.

“The Buganda region has always been an opposition stronghold, especially in support of the FDC (Forum for Democratic Change). Now that the FDC has regrouped under PFF, it’s morally right for Baganda to redirect their support to a party that will not only respect their king but also address their challenges,” Lukwago said.

“The time has come for us to take back our region from those who have not honored our people’s aspirations. The PFF stands for the true interests of Buganda, and we will not rest until we restore dignity to our communities,” Lukwago added.

As Uganda gears up for the 2026 general elections, both parties are steaming up for a battle for the hearts and minds of Buganda’s voters.

Political analysts suggest that the contest for Buganda could significantly impact national politics, as the region is known for its strong voter turnout and influence.
