Government has urged local leaders and citizens to own various development initiatives in a bid to enhance quality service delivery in their areas.
This was made by Luyinda James, the Assistant Commissioner of Human Resource in the Ministry of Public Service on Monday while addressing journalists at the Media centre in preparation for the celebration of the Africa Public Service day on June 22nd, 2022.
The national celebration for this day shall be held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala under the theme of “Bringing Citizens and Government closer – service Delivery for Social Economic Transformation.”
Africa Public Service Day was set aside to recognize the contribution of public servants to the development process of Uganda and to encourage the younger generation to pursue careers in the Public Sector.
The theme calls upon the African Union, its organs, Member states, Regional Economical communities and Civil Society Organizations to partner with citizens in the delivery of public services to facilitate improvement in the living conditions of African People.
“It is also a reminder that there is need for development of competent Administrators and managers for rapid socio –economic development of the African Continent,” he noted.
According to him, Uganda has made significant strides in empowering citizens to demand for high quality services from Government, which has enhanced transparency and accountability.
“Adoption of the Baraza concept in local government has rekindled interest in local affairs and enhanced accountability and building of partnerships between the local leaders and their communities,” Luyinda said.
He further noted that the digitalization of business processes have been implemented to ensure efficiency, effectiveness and accountability in service delivery.
Some of the most prominent digitalized government system include, automation of financial systems through integrated financial management systems, the Electronic funds transfer, Tax reforms/ electronic services, National Land Information System (NLIS) which allows users to access information on titles and tracking the progress of land transactions submitted to the Land Registry.
