The Deputy Lord Mayor for Kampala City, Doreen Nyanjura, has warned that her boss, Erias Lukwago, cannot be defeated in any elections, branding him as the only hope for Kampala.
Nyanjura, who is rumoured to be Lukwago’s side babe, warned NUP not to attempt to front Fred Nyanzi, the brother of Robert Kyagulanyi, for the KCCA mayoral seat in 2026.
Recently, while addressing the residents of Kawaala, Lubaga division, who were recently affected by the NEMA demarcations, Nyanjura said Lukwago is immortal and irreplaceable in Kampala.
“Politicians are fighting the Lord Mayor trying to undermine his service delivery at City Hall. But I want to assure them that he’s irreplaceable and everyone’s choice in Kampala because he understands the issues in the city and is the only one with their solutions,” Nyanjura said.
Her statements followed claims that the opposition NUP is using radical councillors to undermine and weaken Lukwago, paving the way for their political ambitions in Kampala.
These claims suggest that NUP is eying the position of Lord Mayor for Kampala considering its strategic importance within the Capital City.
It should be remembered that on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, when chaos between councillors erupted at City Hall, Nyanjura immediately accused NUP councillors of using extreme violence against the Lord Mayor and FDC.
“Some Councillors at City Hall want to be worshipped simply because they belong to a political party with majority Councillors. They always gang up against FDC and the Lord Mayor, not minding about the issue at hand,” she stated.
Lukwago has remained in the limelight, with several political pundits asserting that he could be losing his political strength due to the appalling state of roads and poor service deliveries, including the Kiteezi garbage incident that caused loss of lives and many became homeless.
The failure of Lukwago’s administration to come up with feasible solutions to the current issues in the city has facilitated his opponents, especially the NUP, to undermine his leadership.
