The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has embarked on a mega road rehabilitation drive as part of its strategic goals for the 2024/25 financial year.

Frank Rusa, the acting KCCA Executive Director on Thursday, October 24, 2024, during a press conference held at his office, said the drive will directly enhance road infrastructure, eradicate potholes, and establish efficient traffic management systems.

“We recognize that efficient transportation is vital for the development of our city. Our road infrastructure must be robust and well-maintained to support economic activities and ensure the safety of all road users,” Frank said.

The latest drive is being implemented under the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project (KCRRP), which seeks to increase project performance from the current 20% to 40% during the interim period.

“By accelerating the KCRRP, we aim to improve accessibility and connectivity across the city, benefiting both residents and businesses,” he added.

KCCA is also focusing on activating traffic lights at 20 key junctions including Mulago, Kubiri, and Kampala Road junctions. The project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

“Effective traffic management is essential for a city of our size. The activation of traffic lights will reduce accidents at critical junctions,” Rusa said.
