Katonga Faction Issues Notice of Dissolution of Original FDC Party

The leaders of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, Katonga faction, have kicked off the legal procedures to dissolve the FDC party under the stewardship of Patrick Amuriat Oboi as a party president at Najjanankumbi, Entebbe Road.

On Tuesday, August 27th, 2024, Wasswa Birigwa the FDC National Chairman at Katonga issued a legal notice seeking to dissolve the party in six months.

The decision to dissolve the original FDC was passed during the National Delegates Conference on 19th August 2024.

“Notice to dissolve the Forum for Democratic Change is at this moment issued per Article 36 of the FDC Party Constitution,” the notice signed by Birigwa reads in part.

Harold Kaija, the acting Secretary General at Katonga, said they will also petition the Electoral Commission about dissolving the mother party and securing names for a yet-to-be-born party.

However, Katonga’s idea of dissolving the FDC party has been rubbished by the party president, Patrick Amuriat, stating that his leadership at Najjanankumbi is the only mandated body to dissolve the party.

“The only mandated body to dissolve the party is the leadership at Najjanankumbi as per Article 36 of the party constitution. Our comrades at Katonga should stop playing political jokes,” Amuriat said.

Article 36 (1, 2, 3, and 4) of the party constitution provides that the National Delegates Conference may dissolve the party by a two-thirds majority of all delegates of the National Delegates Conference and transfer the assets and liabilities of the party; there must be a notice of at least six months, among others.

Political analysts have since revealed that the continued squabbles between the two-party factions are a testament to the last days of FDC in the political landscape of Uganda.

The once-leading opposition political party started facing blows that broke its spinal cord and split over allegations of dirty money that purportedly came from the State House.
