The Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), one of the leading business associations in Uganda, has called off a city traders strike that was scheduled to take place on April, 8, 2024, and appealed to their other colleagues who are sending them threatening messages to be law abiding citizens and stop the intimidation of traders.

Dr. Thadeus Musoke Nagenda , the Chairman of KACITA, has said that, as the association, they decided to call off the planned strike, and all business communities under KACITA are urged to open their businesses, and all those who wish to do the same can do so.

“I have decided to clarify some very important issues about the economy and some activities taking place; we have called off the strike and urge our other colleagues to stop intimidating our traders,” Dr. Musoke said.

Dr. Musoke called upon the government to respond to their demands since what they need is a conducive business environment to operate in.

He appealed to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to halt their operations and engage more with the traders to get their feedback on issues affecting them.

“I want to assure the public and Uganda at large that as KACITA we campaign dialogue and utilize all avenues to make sure we advocate for more fair trade policies by engaging different leaders and associations ,” said Dr. Musoke.’

This comes after city traders had planned to carry out a strike to protest what they called unfair trade conditions and a poor business environment to operate in.
