South Sudan’s capital city Juba is set to host the launch of the business forum between Uganda and South Sudan.
Uganda’s Ambassador to South Sudan H.E Brig. Gen. Ronnie Balya confirmed the joint business forum that will be held in Juba on 18th July 2022.
This will bring together business communities of both countries to discuss the challenges, networking for potential partnerships, understanding regulatory taxation and legal regime identify opportunities that can be explored to promote trade and Investment.
Uganda and South Sudan have a lot to benefit from each other as well as supporting each other’s development for social, political and economic growth. Uganda exports to South Sudan are between $350m – $ 400m while exports to Uganda from South Sudan are between $80m – $90m.
He said that, bilateral trade and investment has created enormous benefits for both countries including employment creation, market access for Ugandan agricultural and manufactured products and increased revenue for both business and governments.
He noted that business opportunities in South Sudan have continued to grow and expand with improvements in the business environment considerable economic opportunities. These are available for mutual benefit of traders and investors from both countries.
The Ambassador highlighted the objectives of the joint business Forum and these will befit both public and private sectors.
The Business Forum intends to create an enabling platform that allows Uganda and South Sudan private sector to identify challenges and opportunities of cross border trade and investment. It create business to business networks and share experience, raise awareness about investment and business opportunities in both countries.
There will also be an exhibition and business dialogues to solve business huddles, share information on opportunities, trade and business options for both countries. This will boost bilateral trade and investment flow for both countries.
The Forum that will be hosted for 3 days, will have over 300 delegates in attendance represented from Private sector (large, medium, small and startup companies) from Uganda and South Sudan, potential Investors from the region and the rest of the World, public sector, policy makers, public sector agencies and business support institutions.
Due to the pandemic that affected the world and still causes restrictions on public gatherings, the rest of the world will catch the proceedings on live stream and social media platforms.
