The joint security forces have thwarted a potential disaster by recovering and defusing two bombs planted by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in churches located in Kibibi and Butambala. This came as a result of popular vigilance and timely intervention by the police.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in a statement released on October 15, commended the public for their alertness, which led to the recovery of the explosive devices. He emphasized the determination of the police to identify and capture the individuals responsible, whether they seek refuge in Congo, Uganda, or South Africa.

In light of the thwarted attack, the president urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or strangers in their communities. Pastors in Kibibi have already taken the initiative to spread awareness among their congregations about the potential threat posed by bombs.

The president’s statement also highlighted recent military action against the ADF. Fighter-bombers launched attacks at four different points along the Bundibugyo-Semilik border, approximately 72 kilometers, 120 kilometers, 69 kilometers, and 130 kilometers away. These strikes resulted in the elimination of several terrorists.

During the assault, it was observed that the fleeing terrorists sought refuge in Uganda after crossing the border from Congo. President Museveni particularly mentioned an incident involving a truck transporting onions to the Congolese market, which may have been targeted by these criminals.

The efforts of the joint security forces in neutralizing the planted bombs and eliminating several ADF terrorists demonstrate their commitment to ensuring peace and security in the region. The government’s focus on public vigilance and collaboration underscores its dedication to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens amidst ongoing security challenges.
