The Ministry of Internal Affairs, Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control, has issued a warning to Ugandans against fraudulent Electronic Visa (e-Visa) Application Portals.
In a statement, Simon Peter Mundeyi, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, notified the general public about the official electronic visa application portal for the Republic of Uganda that can be found on the ministry’s website.
He also warned the public of the existence of scam sites that either charge them exorbitantly or defraud them totally.
Mundeyi said that the official portal for visas to the Republic of Uganda provides a range of services, including the issuance of all types of visas to Uganda, work permits, certificates of permanent residence, student passes, and dependents passes at official fees.
He outlined the official fees for visas to Uganda, including the types of visas and the official fees per visa.
“The fees for other immigration facilities for the Republic of Uganda are available in the application portal against each service or on our website,” he said.
He added that visas take less than three working days, and the Government of Uganda does not charge any additional fees for fast-tracking visas, warning that the unofficial websites are designed to confuse clients and appear as though they are legitimate.
“While the unofficial site has three steps and no official logo, the genuine official application site has the DCIC logo and Uganda Court of Arms and is done in four steps, which include selecting the application type, filling out the form, adding documents, and submitting your application,” Mungeyi stated.
Mungeyi advised clients to desist from submitting electronic applications for Ugandan visas through any other site other than the one he mentioned, adding that anyone who submits through any other site does so at their own risk.
He warned that the government of Uganda shall not be held responsible for any inconvenience, loss (monetary or otherwise), or refused entry arising from using unofficial or fraudulent sites.
