In a rather stunning but nonetheless unsurprising move, Rwanda President Paul Kagame has warned his fellow country men not to move to Uganda for any reason whatsoever. The move is the latest in a series of hostilities the southern border country has instituted towards her neighborly brother.
Many people of Rwanda rely heavily on Uganda for day to day supplies and even have relatives across the border. Uganda has played a big role in the history of Rwanda, hosting millions both during the 1950’s and 1990’s civil wars.
Many envoys from Uganda and abroad like DRC President have tried to end the cold war declared by Rwanda on Uganda to little avail.
Kagame deeply believes or wants people to believe that Uganda is hellbent on failing his regime. Uganda relies on market in Rwanda for it’s exports. Why would it at the same time sabotage the same?
Rwanda also has a number of deep lying issues such as mistreatment of political opponents including one who recently died in a jail cell recently.
Rwanda has responded to her tainted human rights record by investing heavily in international events like the flopped CHOGM and just recently the Afro basketball sports competition. All which have been expensive ventures aimed at sports washing the regime but to little effect. Other like the Arsenal sponsorship have put a strain on the resources of one of the poorest countries in the world.
It is little wonder that many Rwandans have decided to flee in search of greener pastures across the border.
Kagame should therefore concentrate on the matters at home and not deflect his failings to other people. He should be in charge and take the welfare of his countrymen seriously.
