Iganga Court Remands Three PDM Officials Over Extortion

The Iganga District Chief Magistrates Court has remanded three Parish Development Model, PDM, officials in Namutumba district.

The officials were arraigned in court on Monday, July 22, 2024, and subsequently charged with extortion.

According to a statement released by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the suspects include Namugosa Farida, Woman Councilor Nawampandu Parish, Namaba Rogers, PDM SACCO Chairperson for Nawampandu “A” Kantono Ruth, and PDM SACCO Chairperson of Kasegere B.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), in conjunction with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), has arraigned three suspects from Namutumba on charges of theft of PDM funds from beneficiaries.

They are accused of escorting PDM beneficiaries to the banks, luring them to withdraw, and later taking the money from them.

The source noted that the suspects will reappear in court on August 2, 2024.
