The Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) has resumed recruitment exercise in Kapelebyong District. Hundreds of youths turned up at the district headquarters to be enlisted into the national army.

Kapelebyong District was allocated a quota like other districts which was determined by its population, however 30% of the slots are reserved for women.

The exercise follows the communication from the Defense spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye stating that UPDF is seeking 8300 regular recruits from various districts around the country.

“For one to be recruited, they must be citizens of Uganda holding the original National identify card, must be in good health, medically fit and ready to undergo road run and check ups. They should between the age of 18-25 or 18-30 if he or she is to enlist as regular or professional respectively. They must be single with no children to avoid family distraction,” said Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye while addressing the media from Media Centre.

Prospective recruits were also required to submit a recommendation letter from their areas of residence, signed by officials from LC1 up To LC3 as well as the Gombolola internal Security Officer (GISO).

However, after the running exercise, only thirty recruits emerged victorious and are undergoing medical examinations.

Some applicants who were deemed to be over aged were turned away.

On 13th June, the UPDF Spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye said, the exercise is intended to recruit at least 10,000 in an exercise that commenced on June 18th and expected to end on 4th July 2022.

The recruitment exercise is aimed at attracting very composed and patriotic Ugandans ready to serve in regular, professionals and specialized units.
