There has been serious political posturing lately, with different opposition political players from different parties pretending to be united against the ruling party.
On several occasions, these politicians have been appearing on media talk shows and political gatherings to show how they are united to remove the NRM government by all means.
However, these opposition politicians end up talking, and none of them walk the talk. The planned United Forces of Change that was meant to unite all opposition parties in the country did not see the light of day as each leader was seen doing their own thing with Besigye already in consultations to form a new political party.
As they traverse the country for their mobilization tours, Bobi Wine and his NUP team are set to visit Rukungiri today.
Rukungiri district is Besigye’s home district and one of his strongholds, as per the past voting pattern until 2021.
As these leaders have been posturing, it would be prudent for the two opposition leaders to move together in these areas as a sign of unity and togetherness in the struggle for change.
The truth of the matter is that these opposition political leaders can never unite for a common cause; political grandstanding is always meant to hoodwink the supporters.
These opposition leaders are selfish, and their political parties are formed for different selfish reasons; most of them have proved to be worse than the NRM they oppose. Their selfish nature cannot, in any way, allow them to unite for change.
Bobi Wine and Besigye have consistently told their supporters that President Museveni cannot be removed by an election, but the same politicians have continued to participate in an election they know cannot deliver what they want.
Besigye, who did not participate in the 2021 elections, has already started the process to come back in the 2026 elections, and one wonders what their actual intentions are.
The lack of unity by these opposition political players, coupled with endless internal fights and intolerance, is one of the reasons these opposition parties and their leaders have failed to deliver change to some of the change-seeking Ugandans, and it won’t happen shortly.
The lack of ideological basement has brought intolerance and too much ego in these parties and their leaders to the extent that some of these parties cannot survive with some individuals.
The internal fights are always about resource sharing, and many have always left their mother parties to form their own just for financial independence. It is sad how supporters are always considered gullible by these self-seeking leaders. It is high time the posturing stopped and these leaders openly accepted that they couldn’t unite.
