Hippos Roar Past Burundi in U-20 AFCON Qualifiers
The Uganda Hippos U-20 football team has defeated Burundi in their second game at the Total-Energies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.
In the Group B contest played at the KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Uganda secured a 4-1 victory against Burundi.
The Hippos take a quick lead through Allan Oyirwoth’s header just 2 minutes into the start of the match.
Uganda doubled the lead in the 18 minutes of play through John Paul Dembe.
In the 22nd minute of play, Dembe added another goal, making it 3 for the Hippos. At halftime, it was Uganda 3 and Burundi 0.
After the break, the Hippos got the fourth goal through Ramazani Hakizimana’s own goal.
In the 61st minute, Burundi’s Christopher Ndeyikengurukiye got a consoling goal for the team, making it 4:1 at full-time.
According to Ugandan coach Matia Lule, his team responded effectively and had a strong desire to score as many goals as possible.
“We are happy about getting a second win and will continue working hard because we have more matches to go,” Lule added.
In the other Group B match, South Sudan defeated Ethiopia 2-1 in an entertaining game played at the Azam Complex on Wednesday.
Ngong Garang and skipper Daniel Bichiok Dang scored for South Sudan, while Wancha Thurbiel pulled a goal back for the Ethiopians.
