Harmonizing Justice: VP Alupo Calls for Best Practices at EAMJA Conference

The Vice President, H.E. Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, emphasized the importance of justice in the administration of the Judiciary during the opening of the 20th East African Magistrates and Judges Association Conference (EAMJA) hosted at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort. The conference focusing on the theme: “Harmonising the Best Practices of Judiciaries in East Africa.”

“During the deliberations, you need to come up with best practices to enhance the administration of justice,” Alupo stated.

 She called upon all participants to draw from the judiciary experiences to deal with the bottlenecks in the administration of justice.

The Conference was also attended by Chief Justice Alfonse C Owiny-Dollo where he stated that the judiciary is confronted with numerous challenges in the administration of justice but the Conference will help to find a solution to these challenges.

“Our actions and decisions have far-reaching consequences on society and we must bear in mind the aspirations of the people we serve,” Owiny-Dollo said.

He stated that, a well-functioning and independent judiciary is the backbone of access to justice and courts should be able to churn out justice in consideration of the aspirations of people.

The Conference attracted delegates from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Uganda, EACJ, Lesotho, the Commonwealth Secretariat, Zanzibar, and the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association (CMJA).
