Hajji Yunus Kakande, the Permanent Secretary to the President’s Office, has asked RDCs and RCC Disos to use the given radio time to promote the NRM agenda.
While speaking at a two-day capacity-building workshop for RDCs/RCCs, DRDCs/DRCCs, and DISOs from Bunyoro and Rwenzori Sub Region on May 29, 2023, at the Miika Eco Resort hotel in Hoima, Hajji Yunus told the officers to get facts about what the government has done so far in the last two and a half years in relation to the 2021–2026 NRM manifesto.
“You need to get all the facts about the progress of our manifesto and then give people accurate and factual information about the progress,” Kakande noted.
Hajji Yunus reminded the officers in attendance that they should be able to handle the problems in their districts because the constitution grants them authority.
On the issue of environmental and land fragmentation, the officers were cautioned to be champions and activists to safeguard the environment and protect the preservation of these natural resources.
The RDCS/RCCS, DRDCs/DRCCs, and DISOs were given the responsibility of protecting the flora and fauna in order to boost Ugandan tourism, which is one of the country’s key sources of foreign cash.
Both the RDCS and Disos were praised for making every effort to settle land disputes in their respective regions.
“We are happy that we are doing capacity building and surely this wont leave us the same,” said Julian Ayesiga Akiiki, RDC Kyenjojo.
In his concluding remarks, he asked the officers to maintain unity with all district and other key stakeholder groups to foster coherence and development at the district level which will later translate to the national level.
