The Ministry of Works and Transport, in partnership with Mount Elgon Labor-Based Training Center (MELTC), has embarked on the construction of the Onyamalugai and Komuge-Kadesok-Kakoro bridge, which connects Bukedea and Butebo districts.

The Principle Executive Engineer (MELTC) Ssentamu Hassan noted that the bridge is being constructed in a box culvert design with a three-cell structure of 4 m x 3 m and six triple barrel relief culverts (1.2 m internal diameter each) along the same swamp to provide resistance overflow of swamp water.

Eng. Ssentamu revealed that once completed, the bridge will ease the movement of goods and services between the two districts of Bukedea and Butebo to foster economic growth in the area.

The two districts had previously been cut off after the drainage structures were washed away during the heavy rains of 2021.
