The government has cautioned the officials implementing the GROW project under the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development against soliciting bribery from the women entrepreneurs seeking to benefit from the program.
The Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project is a government project funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda in all districts, municipalities, and cities.
Balaam Barugahara, the Minister of State for Children Affairs, while presiding over the meeting held on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024, at the HB Hotel in Hoima City, said no woman should pay a bribe to benefit from the project.
“People go to banks to enquire about the GROW loans, and they are told money is finished; that money can’t be finished. They do that to complicate the process, and in the long run, they demand money from the beneficiaries. Such acts should be immediately reported to the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) or RDC,” Balaam ordered.
The GROW project aims to increase access to entrepreneurial services that enable female entrepreneurs to grow their enterprises from micro to small and small to medium in targeted locations, including the host and refugee districts.
