The government is set to support Karamoja women in boosting their businesses through the GROW project, an initiative to empower women entrepreneurs.
Peace Mutuuzo, the Minister of State for Gender and Culture, while officiating at the official opening of the Karamoja Cultural Festival on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Napeikori grounds in Karenga district, said the initiative aims to sustain self-employment and create more jobs.
Mutuuzo encouraged women in the Karamoja sub-region to continue transforming their communities from nomadic pastoralism to settled and thriving homesteads through engaging in business.
She noted that the government added the Grow project specifically to provide low-interest capital to women in business.
“We shall come and organize the women in business, train them, and give them capital to grow their businesses,” Mutuuzo said.
She rallied women to continue embracing existing programs, including the Parish Development Modal (PDM), Uganda Women Empowerment Program (UWEP), Emyooga, and Youth Livelihood Program (YLP), among others.
The Grow Project Development Objective (PDO) is to increase access to entrepreneurial services that enable women in business to grow their enterprises in targeted locations, including in Refugee-Hosting Districts (RHDs).
