The Ministry of Health, through the Uganda Medical Internship Committee Secretariat, has deployed medical interns for one year. They are expected to report by August 5th, 2024, until July 31st, 2025.

Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa, the Director General of Health Services, confirmed this on Monday, July 29, 2024.

According to Dr. Mwebesa, the placement of medical interns covered graduates who completed their courses in 2023 and before.

“This group has been outstanding since last year as a backlog. This deployment takes into account the training facilities in place,” reads the statement.

He also stated that the graduates of 2024 will be deployed in the future.

Additionally, he encouraged the institutions to swiftly make arrangements to guarantee that the program would start on schedule and to turn in the list of candidates who had reported by August 19, 2024, so that their allowances could be processed more easily.

He says each medical intern is entitled to a monthly salary of Shs1 million.

In July 2023, the Ministry of Health deployed medical interns to 58 internship centers across the country.
