Uganda’s long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo has been nominated for the 2024 Men’s “Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year.”
The World Athletics confirmed this development on Monday, October 28, 2024.
According to World Athletic, Kiplimo was nominated alongside four other athletes, including Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia, Benson Kipruto of Kenya, Brian Daniel Pintado of Ecuador, and Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia.
The announcement highlights Kiplimo’s exceptional achievements over the years, marking a gold medal in the World Cross Country Championships with a time of 28.09 minutes and another outstanding performance in the Valencia 10km race with a time of 26.48, both of which solidified his place among the sport’s elite.
In the women’s category for the Out of Stadium Athletes include Sutume Asefa Kebede of Ethiopia, Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya, Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands, Tigist Ketema of Ethiopia, and Agnes Jebet Ngetich of Kenya.
The 2024 nominations reflect some of the standout performances achieved at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, World Athletics Cross Country Championships, Label road races, and other events worldwide.
The vote to determine the Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year finalists is open on World Athletics’ social media platforms and will close on November 3, 2024.
