In what many see as a monumental ruling in the history of Uganda, yesterday Justice Kakuru delivered a knockout blow to the former FDC President Kizza Besigye in his ongoing electoral petition.

Kizza Besigye was before the court appealing the results of the 2021 general elections but to his shock and horror, his case was dismissed with contempt by the Supreme Court judge.

Justice kakuru is no stranger to controversy and he is well known for siding against increasing the presidential age during the age limit case. The justice is also known for being lenient on opposition politicians while always passing harsh judgment towards the government.

In his statement, the judge said, “I would therefore decline to grant the remedies that he seeks in the petition. Maybe he will seek audience before his own court or before the ‘judge’ who swore him in as ‘president’”.

It should be remembered that Kizza Besigye held a mock swearing in after the defeat in the 2016 general elections and has since been running a mock government called the ‘people’s government’.

It is also amusing that the same Besigye who calls the current government ‘illegitimate’ frequently runs to its courts to seek remedies for his never ending petitions. This is why many regard him as a career joker, something that has seen him lose sizeable ground to his former friend cum rival, Bobi Wine.

This latest indictment of Besigye from a neutral source is set to be a big blow to the career presidential aspirant especially ahead of the 2021 general elections. Justice Kakuru hardly minces about with his words and such an indictment coming from a highly respectable legal mind should not be taken lightly.

It is difficult to see how Besigye can come back from this, with many of his supporters attacking the Judge in typical mob fashion on social media as they are known for not taking well to being criticised.
