Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has welcomed home 211 Ugandans living and working in the Republic of the Sudan today, April, 27 2023. The evacuees arrived in the country aboard Uganda Airlines following a successful evacuation ordered by H.E Yoweri K. Museveni.
The Senior Presidential Advisor on Operations and designated supervisor of the special evacuation operation Gen. Muhoozi assured Ugandans that the other group will soon be home.
“We thank the Almighty God for bringing you back and we are very delighted to see you all. The Government is putting into plans to bring back home other people that are still in Sudan,” Gen Muhoozi said.
The evacuees in the company of Joseph Ocwet, the Director General of the External Security Organization (ESO) composed of diplomats, students, and business expatriates, touched down at 02:30 am at Entebbe International Airport, from Bahir Dar Airport in Northern Ethiopia.
H.E Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, the Ambassador of Uganda to Sudan appreciated President Museveni, and the government for all the efforts made to ensure that Ugandans were evacuated from Bahir Dar Airport in Ethiopia.
He also stated that the total number, which they had was 300 Ugandans including 18 who are working at the Uganda embassy, 19 who were in transit going to Mecca, 120 students at Africa International University, another 120 who are working in Khartoum, and some few who were on a short visit.
“So the other people remaining, apart from this number which we came with are 8 who were evacuated with the help of Saudi Arabia Embassy, 3 who made their way through Port Sudan, 7 who were helped by UN, others who also used the Ethiopia-Sudan border and some who went through Southern Sudan” he said.
The 211 people were excited and relieved to be back home, and thanked the government, President Museveni and, Gen Muhoozi for bringing them home safe and sound.
