The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has demanded USA to pay $100 billion for the work done by Ugandan  troops  in the Somalia mission.

General Muhoozi made these requests on posts on his X handle on August 16, 2024.

According to General Muhoozi, Uganda is still waiting on the $100 billion, the USA owes the servicemen for the work in Somalia.

“The USA owes atleast $100 billion for our work in Somalia. We did alot better than the people in Ukraine. It seems their specialty is running from Russians. We are waiting for payment.” He stated.

Muhoozi also demanded for an apology from the USA for the dismissal of Uganda from the African Growth and Opportunity Act -AGOA.

In October 2023, President Joe Biden deemed Uganda ineligible for AGOA membership due to “human rights violations” which loosely pointed to the gay rights in Uganda.

This came after President Museveni signed the anti-homosexuality bill into law in May 2023 ; criminalizing same sex  conduct including a death penalty to those caught in the act.

Muhoozi called for the reinstatement of Uganda as an AGOA member before welcoming a discussion on the compensation of Ugandan soldiers lost in Somalia.

“The USA must apologize to Uganda  for removing us from AGOA, we must immediately be reinstated.” He said.

He also sent out a plea to the Arab countries at war to stop their conflict and stressed the importance of peace.

“I am the General who always seeks peace in Ukraine. Only fools desire war. War destroys families and futures. My last tweet today is to my Israeli and Arab brothers. We are all children of father Abraham. Can’t we find a way of out of this senseless conflict?.” Muhoozi added.

Uganda currently has over  5000 soldiers and officers from Uganda from UPDF serving with AMISOM alongside other troops from other states.
