The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) is training thirty-eight young women in a six-day ongoing beginner’s course for young referees at the Association’s Technical Centre, Njeru.
According to Egesa Samuel, the physical instructor, the course is part of the famous two-year FIFA League Development programme that was rolled out in 2022 by the world soccer governing body and aimed at improving women’s football internationally.
He said that the project is an initiative by FUFA that was presented to FIFA and aimed at developing women’s league football and other areas of the game in Uganda.
According to FUFA, the course targeted young girls between the ages of 15-20 to attract them into refereeing, where they learned skills and gained knowledge about officiating matches.
The participants were selected from the eight FUFA regions, including Kampala, Buganda, West Nile, Northern, Eastern, Western, North East, and Kitara.
The participants from Westnile include: Nuela Sunday, Farida Monday, Ayiorwoth Faith, Angucia Shammy, Adunia Winnie, and Dunia Salama.
Shamirah Yahya, Angom Fiona Fizy, Ikuze Anita Laura, Mutesi Enid, and Akampurira Primah are representing the Kitata region, whereas Basiima Martha, Najjuma Adrine, Nassuuna Shakirah, Namayanja Patience, Nabukenya Shadiah, Nayiga Rose, and Mutuwa Eseza represent the Buganda region.
Abagye Vallener, Agumenaitwe Elizabel, Nabalanzi Tracy, Akwir Juliet, Kwarisiima Annitah, Kwagalakwe Promise, Ageno Scovia, Akansasira Grace, Acham Sylivia Claire, Acen Lona, Akello Fiona Okello,Chebet Elizabeth, Arengeib, Ademun Lydia, Aseun Hellen, Nabirye Shiba, Namatovu Hajjarah, Nafula Phiona, Angella Antoniata, and Nangobi Annah Shantal are repesenting Western, Northern, Eastern, and Central regions.
These young women are expected to enrich the sporting world with their skills attained from this training.
