Abdul Yousif Mohammad Adam aka Aziz, a man from Sudan, has been held in custody after appearing in court for allegedly tricking a Dubai investor out of over $650,000.
Adam faced charges of obtaining money by false pretenses at the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court. He is accused of being part of a scam where he and others, who have not yet been caught, persuaded Osman Hussan, an investor from Dubai, to pay a large sum for non-existent gold sales.
The fraud is said to have occurred between September and October 2024 in different areas of Kampala. Adam allegedly misled Hussan into believing he was selling gold.
On November 20, 2024, the Anti-Corruption Unit released a statement denouncing Adam’s actions. They explained how Adam and his accomplices tricked Hussan out of the money.
“The accused and others still at large, in the months of September and October 2024, with intent to defraud, obtained $650,000 from Osman Hussan by falsely pretending that they were to sell gold to him, whereas not,” the statement said.
This case is being handled by the Anti-Corruption Unit, in partnership with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Adam will stay in custody until his next court date on November 28, 2024.
