James Earl Carter Jr was born on 1 October 1924 in the small town of Plains, Georgia, the eldest of four children. He died on December 29, 2024 .
Carter, who swept to power promising never to lie to the American people, served from 1977 to 1981 and was known for his commitment to peace, democracy, and human rights, both during and after his presidency.
