The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) national chairman, Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa, has been blocked from accessing the party premises in Najjanakumbi, Kampala, this morning.
Birigwa was due to address a press conference scheduled for Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. on the issues of suspended structure elections, a directive that has been ignored by the outgoing Secretary General, Nandala Mafabi.
However, after scuffles with security, he was later allowed inside, but all journalists were denied access to the party headquarters.
Nandala Mafabi allegedly masterminded the entire plan, claims Nyanjura Doreen.
“Party workers say they received instructions from Nandala Mafabi, the outgoing Secretary General, to block the National Party Chairman from accessing the Party Headquarters,” Nyanjura said.
“Meanwhile the outgoing Party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi is in his office at the headquarters,” Nyanjura added.
The standoff between the Party chairman and the Najjanankumbi team comes less than 24 hours after the two factions, one in Katonga loyal to Dr Kizza Besigye and the other in Najjanankumbi led by Party President engineer Patrick Amuriat, held simultaneous press conferences, one in Najjanankumbi by Amuriat, Mafabi, and Robert Centenary and the other in Katonga by Dr. Besigye.
During the Wednesday, 19th, 2022 press conference at Najjanankumbi, Amuriat asked any leader in the party to always come to the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi and not go to other places. According to witnesses, today’s standoff with the party chairman demonstrates the Najjanankumbi faction’s unwillingness to tolerate and maintain their word as pledged to other party members.
The standoff between the top party officials shows that the woes in the FDC are far from over and that the two factions are in for more fights.
