The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially endorsed Dr. Rose Mary Alwoc, daughter of the late Cecilia Atim Ogwal, as their party’s flag bearer for the Dokolo District woman Member of Parliament by-elections.

The announcement was made today 14th February 2024 at the FDC party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Kampala, earlier today, in the presence of the party’s top leadership and members of the press.

FDC President Patrick Amuriat Oboi urged the residents of Dokolo to rally behind Dr. Rose Mary Alwoc and vote for her in large numbers.

“We are here today to unveil Dr.Rose Mary Alwoc of exceptional qualities, extremely articulate and a woman of value and character and someone who would ably fit in the shoes of the mother,” Amuriat said.

He further emphasized that the people of Dokolo and Lango should consider Dr. Rose Mary Alwoc as the perfect successor to Dr. Cecilia Ogwal, in recognition of her outstanding capabilities as a candidate.

Additionally, President Amuriat called upon the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Electoral Commission to ensure a fair and transparent election process.

“ I Would like to call on the leadership of NRM and the electoral commission to ensure a level playing ground for all candidates. The electoral commission has to prove they are a better team than the team of the last term as they serve their new term,” Amuriat added.

In her acceptance speech after receiving the FDC flag, Dr. Rose Mary expressed her gratitude to the party for entrusting her with this responsibility. She also pledged to work harmoniously with everyone if elected as the Woman Member of Parliament for Dokolo district.

“None of these things can be done unless I have the mantle of office and I believe I can do this work. We stand here strong on the FDC ticket and to deliver that work not only in Dokolo but also Lango if you give me that office,”  Alwoc said.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled the nomination of all candidates for the position of Woman Member of Parliament on March 11-12, 2024. Following the nomination, the campaign period will commence from March 13-19, 2024.

The polling date for the Dokolo District Woman MP seat has been set for March 21, 2024, while the elections for lower local councils and representatives of special groups will take place on March 18, 2024.

The Dokolo Woman MP by-election is anticipated to be a significant event, drawing attention from both local residents and political observers across the country, as voters exercise their democratic right to choose their representative.
