Police in Masaka are currently investigating a tragic incident involving a head-on collision between two vehicles, resulting in the death of one person and leaving four others with serious injuries.

The unfortunate accident took place at 10:30 p.m. on August 14, 2024, at Ndikuttamadda, a location between Mpugwe and Makanga, approximately 6 kilometers away from Masaka.

The deceased has been identified as Joseph Lubega, a resident of Entebbe in Wakiso district.

Preliminary reports indicate that Lubega was driving a white Mark II car with registration number UBF 740M. He was returning with his three children from a burial at Kitanga, his hometown, when their vehicle collided head-on with a canter truck.

Greater Masaka police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye, in an interview on August 15, 2024, confirmed the incident and noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.

Lubega was traveling from Masaka to Kampala when the collision occurred with the canter truck, which was en route from Kampala to Nyendo in Masaka city, loaded with chicken feeds.

While the driver of the canter truck and Lubega’s children survived the crash, they sustained critical injuries. Unfortunately, Lubega lost his life at the scene of the accident.

Kasirye mentioned that statements from both drivers and eyewitnesses will be crucial for the investigation.

“We are going to get a statement from the canter driver to aid in our investigations; however, Lubega’s kids and the driver of the canter truck will also help with their statements because we want to know how the accident happened,” Kasirye disclosed.

The body of Joseph Lubega has been placed in the hospital’s mortuary as the community mourns his passing and prays for the recovery of the injured. SP Kasirye emphasized the importance of following traffic rules, avoiding speeding, and exercising caution on the roads to prevent such tragedies from reoccurring.
