Facebook owner Meta has banned Russian networks, including RT, for alleged “foreign influence activity.”

The action comes days after the US government took legal action against the Russian media team over alleged election meddling, prompting the Biden administration’s sanction announcement against Russia and other state-controlled media.

According to the Facebook owner, the Russian state media allegedly used selfish tactics to execute, influence operations, and avoid easy detection across its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.

“After careful consideration, we expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets,” Meta said.

He added that Rossiya Segodnya, RT, and other related entities were now banned from their apps.

RT (formerly Russia Today or Rossiya Segodnya) is a Russian state-controlled international news television network funded by the Russian government. It operates pay television and free-to-air channels directed to audiences outside of Russia, as well as providing Internet content in Russian, English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Portuguese, and Serbian.
