Matthias Mpuuga, the former Leader of Opposition, has revealed that the People’s Power Forum (PPF) is primarily sponsored by the National Unity Platform secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya.

According to Mpuuga, PPF is also being fully operated by Rubongoya’s brother, who is his personal assistant, challenging previous assumptions that he (Mpuuga) was the financier.

This revelation follows allegations from NUP party leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, on September 30, 2024, who accused Mpuuga of working with the government and sponsoring PPF to destabilize the party.

Mpuuga, while responding to these allegations on Monday, October 1, 2024, blamed Bobi Wine for only seeking to malign his personality.

“Imagine Bobi Wine instead of running the party and handling internal conflicts; he is busy spreading propaganda against me and letting the enemy expand and gain ground right under his watch,” Mpuuga said.

According to Mpuuga, Rubongoya’s financial backing for PPF has played a crucial role in the party’s recent activities and initiatives.

Patrick Wakida, a political expert, said that this shift in the revelation of sponsorship has raised eyebrows and confirms the narrative that indeed Rubongoya is the mole, particularly now that Mpuuga has exposed him as the key figure in the PPF leadership and sponsorship.

“This revelation has significant implications for the future direction of NUP, as this revelation may affect the party’s internal dynamics as members reassess their alliances and who to trust,” Wakida said.

Rubongoya is yet to publicly comment on the allegations, while Mpuuga’s camp is reportedly strategizing to address the situation and maintain support among party loyalists.

As the situation develops, many are watching closely to see how this sponsorship revelation will impact both the PPF and NUP’s standing in the political arena.
