πΊπ¬ Judiciary postpones Justice Stella Arach-Amoko’s burial as family disagrees on her final resting place
πThe Judiciary has postponed the burial of late Justice Stella Arach-Amoko from Friday, June 23, 2023, to a later date that shall be communicated after the family agrees on the burial ground to finally lay Justiceβs remains to rest. The communication was made by Chief Registrar Sarah Langa Sui of the Judiciary in a statement dated June 22, 2023. She said that new dates would be communicated in due course.
βThis is to inform you that due to factors beyond our control, the burial of the late Hon. Lady Justice Stella Arach-Amoko, Justice of the Supreme Court, will not take place on Friday, June 23, 2023 as had been planned,β Langa said.
This comes after the family of the late Justice Arach petitioned against the decision to bury her in Adjumani, in a letter dated June 20, 2023 that was addressed to the Permanent Secretary of the Judiciary Dr. Pius Bigirimana. The family said that it was the deceasedβs wish to be buried at Nebbi near her biological fatherβs grave. The familyβs petition also indicated that she expressed her wish while still at Nakasero Hospital on June 10 and 12, 2023, to her biological siblings (Onyok and Picho) respectively.
βThe biological mother who is still alive and is waiting to receive and bury her deceased daughter next to her fatherβs grave,β the petition read in part.
The deceasedβs children also contend that they have never been introduced to Adjumani and do not have any place of abode and attachment to that place.
In the petition, the children revealed that they have never been shown any land or property in Adjumani which could enable them to pay their respect to their mother as and when required. Lady Justice Stella Arach-Amoko who was a Justice of the Supreme Court from June 2013 breathed her last on June 17, 2023 at Nakasero Hospital-Kampala.
πΊπ¬ Karuma truck wreckage recovered 20 miles from accident scene
πUganda Police has recovered the truck which plunged into River Nile at Karuma falls earlier this week. However, the Police are yet to recover any of the occupants of the truck. The Nwoya Police confirmed that the truck registration UAT 113S was found about 20 miles away from the scene of the accident. The driver of the truck , only identified as Tumusiime, is suspected to have gotten a mechanical condition, making him lose control.
πΊπ¬ Government downplays UPCβs call for talks with ADF
πThe Government has downplayed calls by the Uganda Peoplesβ Congress (UPC) party to hold talks with Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels. The Information and National Guidance Minister, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, in an exclusive interview explained that there is nothing to talk about with the extremist Islamist militants responsible for last Fridayβs fatal attack on Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School in the border district of Kasese. He said that, unlike other rebel groups with whom the Government has negotiated peace like the Lord Resistance Army among others, the ADF is a terror outfit backed by the internationally sanctioned Islamic State terror group. UPC spokesperson, Sharon Arach on Wednesday said that the Government should allow Rwenzururu King, Charles Mumbere to mediate negotiations since his kingdom spreads across Kasese and Bundibugyo districts, and parts of eastern DR Congo where ADF sprinter groups are active.

πΊπ¬ MITYANA: Police recovers 5 year old kidnapped boy
πPolice in Mityana District has recovered Emmanuel Kayima, a 5 year old boy who had been kidnapped. The kidnappers had earlier demanded a ransom of Shs.100,000,000 from the parents before they could release the child. However Police received information that the child had been sighted in an abandoned house where they went and retrieved him. Kayima was kidnapped on his way from school last week.
πΊπ¬ KASESE: Authorities order schools to reopen or face punitive action
π Kasese District authorities have ordered schools which had closed following an attack on Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School to reopen or face punitive action. During a meeting of head teachers and the district security committee at Kasese Primary School,Β George Mayinja, the Kasese District principal education officer issued guidelines mandating all learners to report back to their respective schools without fail apart from Lhubiriha Secondary School that was temporarily closed by the Education ministry after the attack. The Kasese Resident District Commissioner, Lt Joe Walusimbi explained that all schools should open immediately and follow the key measures including providing psycho-social support to students so that they calm down.

πMembers of the Parliamentary committee on National Economy have visited Wakiso District projects funded under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area urban Development Program. The team on Tuesday inspected planned projects for Wakiso District which include Kawuku market and assessed a number of roadsΒ of Kajjansi-Kitende-Bweya and Dewe link (14km), Seguku, Kasenge-Budo remedial overlay and drainage improvement works, Kisozi-Budo-Naggalabi spur (2km), Nsangi-Buloba (4.7km) and Buloba-sentema (8.3km).
πΊπ¬ WAKISO: Police nets armed gang targeting mobile money outlets
πPolice at Nsangi Division in Wakiso District have successfully tracked down an armed gang of robbers targeting mobile money around the country. In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga said the operation carried out by the flying squad unit led to the recovery of an AK47 that was grabbed from one of their officers on May 29 and used in at least four mobile money shop raids across the country. Enanga said six suspects have since been arrested and the motor vehicle which they have been using in the robberies has also been recovered.
