🇺🇬 Omusinga Mumbere granted amnesty, terrorism and murder charges against him dropped
📌The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has dropped terrorism charges against Omusinga wa Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere, and 217 others and subsequently asked the Court to discontinue their trial. This was after the DPP said the accused had applied for amnesty, which has been granted. King Mumbere of Rwenzururu Kingdom, along with his royal guards and others, have been battling charges of murder, treason and aggravated robbery, and his movements have been restricted to Kampala and Wakiso. With the charges dropped, the Omusinga Mumbere can now go back to his kingdom after seven years. According to Lady Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha, the charges withdrawn include murder, terrorism, treason, malicious damage to property, attempted murder, and aggravated robbery, among others. Mumbere and the co accused committed the offences between the months of July and November 2016 at Bukara Village, Kabonero sub-county, and Nyabutsi village, Karangura sub-county in Kabalore District.

🇺🇬 SFC to repair Kampala City roads  in a period of three months
📌The Special Forces Command (SFC) has said it will repair the damaged Kampala City roads within two to three months if they get the required funds.
“We are just waiting for funds to start work that will be done by the SFC Engineering regiment. Our engineers anticipate that once the required funds are available, within two to three months, all the roads that are in bad shape will have been worked on,” Maj Jimmy Omara, the SFC Spokesperson said on Sunday.
Maj Omara said they already have the requisite equipment and manpower for the task.

🇺🇬 Over 100 Congolese flee to Mpondwe in Kasese District over suspected ADF attacks
📌 Following alleged Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) attacks on nearby communities, more than 100 Congolese citizens have approached the Mpondwe-Lubiriha Town in Kasese District. Majority fleeing were women and kids from Lubiriha township. Local leaders said that eight individuals were killed during an attack by the ADF. Those who fled set camp in the St. Michael Catholic shrine in Kabuyiri in Mpondwe Town.

🇺🇬 Public Service sets up body to review workers’ salaries
📌The Ministry of Public Service has established a body to review the salaries and remuneration of public service workers. The Permanent Secretary, Catherine Bitarakwate, says that the process involves different public service bodies reviewing and updating the terms and conditions of their workers independently. She says the reviews will be merged into one document and the committee will act as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to implement the new structure that is aimed at removing apparent unfairness caused by the remuneration differences.

🇺🇬 Minister warns opportunists politicizing President Museveni’s COVID19  situation
📌The Minister for Presidency, Hon. Milly Babalanda has warned opportunists to desist from politicising the situation of President Yoweri Museveni who is still in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 last week. Babalanda singled out “the careless remarks” of the Kampala City Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago who objected to medical reports that the President had contracted Covid-19.
“This is very ridiculous. You cannot doubt the President’s poor health when his own doctors confirmed that he is suffering from Covid-19,” Babalanda said.

🇺🇬 Brig Gen Gureme flags off Ugandan Contingent to Rwanda for Command Post Exercise
📌The Chief of Training and Recruitment, Brigadier General Matthew Gureme has flagged off the Ugandan contingent that will participate in the East African Community (EAC) Command Post Exercise (CPX) “Ushirikiano Imara 2023” that will take place in Musanze in the Republic of Rwanda. While flagging them off on Monday, Brig Gen Gureme said that the objective of this exercise is to get forces to practise duties and responsibilities of mission headquarters which ensure that Ugandan systems, practices and kits are inter-operable with other partner states.

🇺🇬 NTUNGAMO: Over 4000 students graduate in Patriotism
📌At least 4,000 students of Kyamate Secondary School and Ntungamo High School respectively, and their teachers have been passed out following a weeklong training in patriotism principles. The students and teachers received the training courtesy of the National patriotism secretariat and the UPDF. About 1,800 students were from Kyamate while 2,300 were from Ntungamo High School. At least 112 teachers attended the training. The deputy UPDF political commissar Col Nelson Aheebwe officiated at the function. He challenged the trainees to be disciplined and keep up the spirit of loving their country.

🇺🇬 AMUDAT: Livestock traders want Govt to suspend cattle markets over rampant cattle raids
📌Livestock traders in Amudat District want Government to suspend cattle markets in the Karamoja region until lasting solutions to the cattle raids are got. The call follows the recovery of six stolen cows from four trucks which were intercepted at Nadunget security checkpoint as they were in transit. Moses Muteesa, the chairperson of Wankulukuku livestock cooperative society says that commercial cattle raids are changing face and cattle owners connive with security forces to claim for cows which have already been sold out to the dealers.

🇺🇬 KASESE: UWA wants Govt to relocate communities settling in Queen Elizabeth National Park
📌The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has acknowledged that phasing out human settlements within Queen Elizabeth National Park is the solution to the ongoing human-wildlife conflict. UWA is certain that the presence of the 11 communities has resulted in human deaths, property destruction, and animal retaliation. Bashir Hangi, the UWA communication manager explained that despite being recognized by UNESCO as a man and biosphere reserve, the coexistence of human settlements and wildlife within the park has become increasingly unsustainable, prompting them to propose the removal of these communities. Hangi says the existence of 60,000  inhabitants has escalated competition for resources between humans and wildlife.

📌The National Resistance Movement (NRM) bigwigs have camped in Bukedea District to rally support for the party flag bearer ahead of Wednesday’s LV by-election. The NRM vice chairperson for Eastern Uganda, Captain Mike Mukula, the Party Secretary General, Richard Todwong, and the Electoral Commission chairperson, Tanga Odoi, Sports Minister Peter Ogwang and Hon Opolot Patrick Isiaga, the MP representing Kacumbala Constituency are among the key players hunting the vote for the NRM Flag bearer, Mary Akol.

🌍 KENYA: President Ruto pushes for direct talks with Sudan warring Generals
📌 Kenya’s President William Ruto has expressed his country’s commitment to a “face-to-face” meeting with the warring generals in Sudan in order to resolve the crisis there.   He said Kenya as the chair of the regional quartet of countries that includes Ethiopia, Somalia and South Sudan commits to meet the two parties face-to-face to find a lasting solution.  Mr. Ruto said the quartet leaders would in the next three weeks meet to begin the process of an inclusive national dialogue in Sudan.

🌍 RWANDA: Genocide suspect deported from Malawi
📌 The Rwanda National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA) has confirmed the deportation from Malawi, of Théoneste Niyongira, also known as Kanyoni, a genocide suspect.
“Niyongira was the subject of an NPPA Indictment and International Arrest Warrant issued to the Republic of Malawi on April 15, 2019,” a press release revealed. The prosecution has charged Niyongira with the crime of genocide against the Tutsi community, committed in the former Ndora Commune, Butare Préfecture.
