πΊπ¬ CDF pledges to address welfare gaps in Army
πThe Chief of Defense Forces, General Wilson Mbadi has promised to address welfare gaps including availing more accommodation units for soldiers. Gen Mbadi made the pledge while launching the 3rd Annual Units Mobilization of the Uganda Peoplesβ Defense Forces at 3rd Division headquarters, Moroto Army Barracks. He also promised to improve soldiersβ health facilities, access to the Defense Forces Duty-Free shops and gradual increment of their salaries. The 3rd annual unit mobilization exercise is aimed at increasing ideological awareness and securing frameworks that liberate the minds of officers, militants, Defense workers and families. The CDF unit mobilization exercise is an annual activity that was introduced in December 2020.
πΊπ¬ Speaker Among wants Health Ministry to improve remuneration of village health teams
πThe Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has pledged to coordinate with the Ministry of Health to ensure that members of Village Health Teams (VHTs) receive improved allowances for their work in managing and extending health services to communities. The Speaker made the commitment during a meeting with village health team members and local council representatives from the five sub-counties of Bukedea District on Thursday May 25, 2023. Among commended the voluntary service by VHTs in outspreading health services in hard to reach areas, and noted the need for the health ministry to cover funding gaps in the sub sector.
πΊπ¬ Government to start training nursery teachers
πThe Ministry of Education has promised to start training nursery teachers effective next academic year 2023/24. Hon Janet Museveni, the Education Minister said the Ministry mainstreamed Early Childhood Development training as one of the packages in all primary teachersβ colleges. Starting next academic year, the Ministry will roll out diploma training for Early Childhood Caregivers in 22 core PTCS as well as offering scholarships for nearly 2,000 nursery teachers across the country.

πThe Government of Kenya plans to establish digital centers that will combine ICT, agriculture, and educational services in a single location for the benefit of individuals. The ICT and Digital Economy PS Eng. JohnΒ TanuiΒ Thursday commended the idea saying that concentration of vital services to digital hubs will even be accessible in rural locations.
π DRC: Three peacekeepers who died during UN missions, honored with prestigious medal
πOn Friday, the UN presented a medal posthumously to three Indian peacekeepers who had died while working for the UN, including two members of the Border Security Force. The three received recognition for their “supreme Sacrifice” in the line of duty. In memory of the Indian UN soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq and the Democratic Republic of the Congo last year, UN envoy to India Ruchira Kamboj was awarded the Dag Hammarskjold Medal.
π Ukraine condemns African countries over neutrality in Russia invasion
πUkrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba has urged African countries to abandon their stances of remaining neutral towards his country’s war with Russia. While speaking Wednesday in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian Capital, Kuleba said Ukraine was “very upset that some African countries chose to abstain” and called them to lend Ukraine diplomatic support “in the face of Russian aggression.” Many African countries have refused to take sides in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, with several abstaining from votes at the United Nations General Assembly condemning Russia’s invasion including Ethiopia.
“Neutrality is not the answer. By being neutral towards Russian aggression against Ukraine, you project neutrality to the violations of borders and mass crimes that may occur very close to you.”
