🇺🇬 President Museveni challenges Buganda youths to harness PDM opportunities
📌President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has met the National Resistance Movement (NRM) youth leaders from Buganda sub-region under their movement, Buganda For Museveni (BM7) at State House. The President challenged them on opportunities that need urgent attention to further strengthen the party’s support in Buganda. He urged the youths to get actively involved in the Parish Development Model which he said has come to eliminate middlemen in purchasing agricultural supplies.

📌President Museveni has directed the Army to conduct ‘Mato Oput’ reconciliation between Late Rtd. Col. Engola’s clan leadership and Pt. Wilson Sabiti family. While paying his last respects to Rtd Col. Okello Charles Patrick Engola at the Kololo Independence Ground on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, the President advised the Army to initiate the process of reconciliation known as ‘Mato Oput’ in Luo language, citing that he believes it is an effective system of reconciliation.
“We are forgiving Pt. Wilson Sabiti, but with conditions,” President Museveni said.
🇺🇬 Health Ministry launches digital tool for efficient service delivery
📌The Ministry of Health is rolling out a digital tool to address chronic absenteeism, theft of drugs and to improve efficiency in service delivery. This was revealed during the launch of the Uganda Health Information and Digital Health Strategic Plan for the financial year 2020/2021 to 2024/2025. Dr Sarah Byakika, the Commissioner for Planning at the Health Ministry said that the goal of this 5-year strategic plan is to improve data collection and use it for evidence-based decision making.

📌The Minister for Information Communication Technology (ICT) and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has applauded the role played by telecom companies in driving Uganda’s digital revolution. “Previously in our village, one would go to the nearest hill and shout their voices out to inform people on the nearest village about an upcoming function or if not, they would send letter. This has changed with phones. We now look at mobile money which has caused a revolution in the way we send money today,” Dr Baryomunsi said.
🇺🇬 Security cracks down notorious gang behind car robberies in Kampala
📌Security has cracked down a notorious criminal gang that has been robbing cars in Kampala City. Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the criminal gang had a garage in Iganga town where they would dismantle and alter the chassis and registration number plates of stolen cars.
“The operatives recovered nine suspected stolen motor vehicles and also arrested nine suspects, who form part of a wider criminal gang, behind such aggravated robberies of motor vehicles in the capital,” said Enanga.
🇺🇬 Police hunts ‘TikToker’ for sexual assault
📌 Police are hunting for a TikToker who recently uploaded a video of himself engaging in indecent sexual acts with a minor. Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga has identified the suspect as Joseph whom he says recorded himself indecently assaulting an underage girl.
“We have our cybercrime unit that is reviewing that footage on TikTok so that we can have it well transcribed. We have also started an investigation with the view of tracing that young girl.” Enanga said.
🇺🇬 Six convicted over murder of hotel manager and his sibling
📌 High Court Judge Stephen Mubiru has charged six men aged between 23 and 51 guilty of the murder of siblings Ibrahim Bakhit, a manager of Juba City Hotel and his visiting brother Abdallah Mohammed on August 15, 2018 at Arua Park in Kampala. The convicted are Innocent Gumisiriza, Deus Kanyomozi alias Mulengera Donat, Daniel Namara alias Mwesigwa, Jacob Chothembo, Nicolas Mugisha and Abdul Karim Kabano alias Mutegu.
🇺🇬 RUBANDA: Minister directs SHACU to investigate corruption on stalled road projects
📌The State Minister for Economic Monitoring, Beatrice Akello Akori has directed the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) to investigate corruption on three roads abandoned by the contractors. The Minister during a monitoring meeting on Monday grilled the CAO Alex Kwizera, District Engineer Denis Twesigomwe and the ACDP focal person Roland Mwebesa Mugumya to explain the unfinished works despite the expiry of the contract duration. Rubanda District Chairperson Steven Ampeire Kasyaba says the three roads include 7.2km Kerere-Rwabumbe- Rugyendabari Road in Hamurwa Sub-county at Ugx629 million, 14.4km Murutenga-Nyamasizi-Kerere and 6.6km Bugarama-Ntungamo-Kitojo roads worth Ugx731 million implemented under the Agriculture Cluster Development Project (ACDP) with funds from World Bank.
🇺🇬 KIBAALE: Government constructs Ugx497M water supply system
📌The Resident District Commissioner, Godwin Angalia has launched the construction of Kitutu Water Supply System valued at over Ugx497 Million funded by Government of Uganda. The Kibaale District Chairperson, Godfrey Muhonge Kasanga who was present at the launch, applauded the Government for the distribution of safe and clean water in the area. He warned the contractor, Karukana Enterprises Ltd against shoddy work.
🇺🇬 MOYO: South Sudan tells over 100 Ugandans to vacate its territory
📌The Commissioner of Kajo-keji County in Central Equatorial State Mr. Phanuel Dumo has ordered dozens of Uganda nationals purported to be illegally occupying parts of Kajo-keji to vacate and relocate back to Uganda. Dumo says that over 100 Ugandans from the districts of Moyo and Yumbe settled in South Sudan territory of Kangapo Payam claiming the area is part of Uganda territory. He adds that Ugandans have also occupied Adire Primary School and are logging trees in the area.
🇺🇬 MBALE: Security recovers bomb in Busoba sub county
📌Joint Security forces have recovered a bomb abandoned at Big-two Village in Busoba Sub-County. Maj Isaac Oware, the 3rd UPDF Division spokesperson, said an explosive was discovered by a resident grazing his cattle. Maj. Oware commended the residents for reporting the matter to Security forces on time and urged the public to be cautious.

🌍 KENYA: Ugandan goods via Port Mombasa get 15 days free storage
📌Ugandan goods passing via the port of Mombasa now have 15 prior days of free storage. According to a document issued by Mr. William K. Ruto, Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority, the days have been extended from merely nine and commodities travelling via the Embakasi and Naivasha inland container depots (ICDs) will receive 15 and 30 days, respectively, of free storage.
🌍 KENYA: Govt sets up task force to probe quack religions
📌Cult leaders, advocates of religious extremism, fake prophets and other unscrupulous religious leaders in Kenya were Tuesday put on notice after two teams were sworn in to investigate their conduct and look into religion’s regulatory framework in the country. The Taskforce on the Review of the Legal and Regulatory Framework Governing Religious Organisations is expected to come up with proposals on standards and minimum certification requirements for all religious organizations and their leaders so that are registered and allowed to operate. This follows the incident of the Shakahola tragedy where hundreds died due to starvation under the controversial pastor, Paul Mackenzie.

📌The heavy fighting in Sudan has internally displaced 700,000 people since April. The United Nations Tuesday said that the figure had doubled in a week. Efforts to end the war have remained fruitless even as various leaders insist on ceasefire and dialogue. There are now more than 700,000 internally displaced by the fighting which began on April 15,” Paul Dillon, spokesman for the International Organisation for Migration said, adding that “last Tuesday, the figure stood at 340,000.”
🌍 SENEGAL: Court increases Opposition’s Ousmane Sonko sentence to six months
📌Senegalese Court has handed opposition figure Ousmane Sonko a six month suspended sentence in an appeal of a defamation case that could jeopardise his run for president next year. Sonko, 48, came third in the 2019 presidential election and intends to stand again in 2024. He received a 2-month suspended sentence and a hefty fine in March for defaming Tourism Minister Mame Mbaye Niang. A Dakar Appeals Court on Monday increased the term to 6 months, potentially making Sonko ineligible for the vote.
