📌Uganda Tourism Board has unveiled Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2023 at Sheraton Kampala. The annual event was officially launched by the State Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka in the presence of UTB Board Chairman Hon. Daudi Migereko, UTB Director Vivian Lyazzi and Marketing Manager Claire Mugabi. The expo will serve as a means of marketing Uganda as a new destination brand to national, regional and global markets.

📌President Museveni has met with the Parliamentary Legal Committee at State House Entebbe led their Chairperson Hon Robina Rwakoojo and agreed on the way forward in regard to the Anti-Homosexuality Bill.
“I met with the Parliamentary Legal Affairs committee and other parties with interest in the Anti- Homosexuality Bill 2023. We discussed exhaustively the elements of the Bill. The public will be informed after Parliament discusses it further,” President Museveni said in a tweet.

📌The President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping has received credentials of H.E.Oliver Wonekha, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to China during the ceremony that took place on April 24, 2023 at the Great Hall of China. Wonekha was previously serving as the Ambassador of Uganda to the United States of America from 2013 to 2017, then served as Uganda’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Rwanda from 2017 to 2022.

📌Police in Kasese are holding the head teacher of Kasese Primary school on orders of the Resident District Commissioner, Joe Walusimbi on allegations of sending children back home for school dues. This came as result of one pupil reported to the office of the RDC on how the head teacher had separated the learners into two classrooms, teaching only those that had paid fees and leaving out those who had not. “Education is a service not a business,” said Walusimbi.

📌The Ministry of Water and Environment in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Education has donated 22,000 bar soap to schools in Karamoja in an effort to fight poor hygiene-related diseases. The items were handed over to Moroto District Education Officer, Paul Oputa under the ‘I WASH, YOU WASH’ program which is aimed at raising awareness of school-going children to fight poor hygiene in schools in the Karamoja region.

📌A private company known as Stanfield property consultants was hired in June last year to kick start the process of identifying spaces for various land use to show how
Masaka City will develop and meet modern cities standards. Kenneth Atuhaire, the team leader said during a meeting with a section of Masaka leaders held at Saaza hall, that information gathered will be included in the modern city draft plan. The City is among the new regional cities the Government created in 2020.

🌍 Ramaphosa says ANC wants South Africa to pull out of ICC
📌President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa announced on Tuesday that his country’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) had decided to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), which last month issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Putin in March, making it necessary for Pretoria, which will host the BRICS conference this year, to detain him upon his arrival.

🌍 SUDAN: Omar al-Bashir held in Military hospital
📌Sudan’s Army on Wednesday said former President Omar al-Bashir is being held in Aliaa Military Hospital under police custody, after days of speculation surrounding his whereabouts.  Doubts about Bashir’s whereabouts surfaced after thousands of inmates escaped from Kober, the high-security facility he has been detained in since 2019, over the weekend. Bashir and around 30 other prisoners were moved to the hospital on the recommendation of medical staff in Kober prison before fighting between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) broke out on 15 April.

🌍 MOZAMBIQUE: Cholera cases spike in the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy
📌The number of Cholera cases in Mozambique have increased tenfold since February, with more than 28,000 people infected in the southern African country still reeling from the deadly Cyclone Freddy, UNICEF said Tuesday.
“More than 28,000 cases of cholera have been recorded in Mozambique,” Guy Taylor, spokesman for the Mozambican branch of the UN agency, which has distributed 2.4 million doses of the oral vaccine in the country, told a news conference in Geneva. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease has killed 123 people in Mozambique since late last year.
