🇺🇬 President Museveni hails Serbian Govt for prioritising Uganda in trade
📌President Museveni has commended the Government of Serbia for choosing to partner with Uganda to improve trade relations. The Serbian delegation led by Minister of Trade, Hon.Tomislav Momirovic met the President at State House where he delivered a message from the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić to President Museveni inviting him to Serbia to open the Uganda Trade Centre in June 2023.

🇺🇬 Court grants Minister Lugoloobi bail
📌The Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo has granted the State Minister for Planning in the Ministry of Finance, Hon. Amos Lugoloobi, a Ug Shs10 M cash bail. Lugolobi is charged with dealing with suspect property contrary to Section 21A of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2009. The Acting Principal Senior Grade One Magistrate, Ebert Asiimwe while presiding over the court session, banned him from travelling abroad, deposit his diplomatic passport before Court and to desist from interfering with investigations and State witnesses. He was also told to deposit his land title of his home at Makindye Lukuli Kizungu zone. His seven sureties were also asked to pay each Ugx 100 million in non-cash. They include NRM Chairperson in Kayunga District Moses Kalangwa, Kiboga East MP Dr. Kefa Kiwanuka, EALA MP Hon James Kakooza, Namutumba Woman MP Hon Mariam Naigaga and Dr Joseph Muvawaala, the Executive Director of National Planning Authority, also  a Busoga Kingdom prime minister.

🇺🇬 169Bn required for 2023 national census
📌The Uganda Bureau of Statistics requires Shs 160 billion to make preparatory services for the national population census this year. This was said by the State Minister for Finance in charge of general duties, Hon Henry Musasizi while responding to the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Musasizi said the ministry will provide the necessary funding to conduct the census due on August 25, 2023.

🇺🇬 Fire guts Ntinda Police Station
📌A fire broke out Wednesday night around 9:45 pm, destroying Ntinda Police station, spreading to nearest traffic office. Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire says the fire was as a result of negligence as it is alleged that two children lit a fire that ignited and came into contact with electric cables. No injuries were registered.

🇺🇬  LUWEERO: Farmers receive chicks and goats in a bid to eradicate poverty
📌Farmers in Luweero District have received 8000 chicks and hybrid goats in an effort to boost farming and eradicate poverty. The first 20 people received 200 chicks and 15 bags of feeds that included starters mash, growers mash and finisher mash. The items were delivered by Hadijah Namyalo, the senior presidential advisor on political affairs on behalf of President Museveni. Others who received the items are farmers in Katikamu South and Zirobwe Town Council.
“I have delivered the consignment on behalf of the President and the aim is to eradicate poverty among the people of Luweero,”  Namyalo said.

🇺🇬 SIRONKO: Mutufu prison gets new premises
📌Government has commissioned the new premises for Mutufu Prison constructed by the Prisons Engineering department. The deputy Commissioner General of Prisons, Robert says the new facility has several wards, a male facility, female facility, staff quarters, flash toilets, shower rooms and recreation areas. According to Mr Munarura, the old prison had the capacity to accommodate only about 80 prisoners but the new one will have capacity to handle around 300 prisoners.

🇺🇬 KABALE: Thousands attend Katuna Border reopening
📌Following the reopening of the Katuna border after 3 years of closure, youths from Gicumbi District and neighbouring areas joined their counterparts from Kabale  for celebrations dubbed ‘Katuna-Gatuna border reopening thanksgiving’ organised by Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on April 19. The celebrations featured the ‘Rukundo Egumeho’ concert in Kabale Town to celebrate the restoration of bilateral ties between Uganda and Rwanda and the reopening of the common border. Dozens of musicians from both Rwanda and Uganda, including Massamba Intore, Bebe Cool, Spice Diana, Chameleon entertained the revellers.

🌍 KENYA: President Ruto worried that Sudan war could spread to the region
📌 The war in Sudan, according to Kenyan President Ruto, has already “reached horrific levels, including violations of international law” and this could be a regional threat. In a statement on Wednesday, President Ruto warned that Sudan’s warring parties had shown a real danger of spreading the conflict beyond its borders, making the region unstable. He cautioned that Sudan Armed Forces and the paramilitary group RSF have disregarded resolutions passed by the regional bloc, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) which demanded dialogue and an end to hostilities.

🌍  Over 67 million children missed vaccination due to lockdown- UNICEF
📌Around 67 million children globally partially or fully missed routine vaccines between 2019 and 2021 because of lockdowns and health care disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, says a UNICEF report. Africa and South Asia were particularly hit hard.
“More than a decade of hard-earned gains in routine childhood immunisation have been eroded and getting back on track will be challenging,” it reported.

🌍 India could  be World’s most populated surpassing China- UN
📌India is set to surpass China as the world’s most populated nation, with almost 3 million more people by the middle of this year, according to data released by the United Nations on Wednesday. Based on the projections, India’s population by mid-year will reach 1.4286 billion, compared to China’s 1.4257 billion according to the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) State of World Population Report for 2023.
