πΊπ¬ Uganda can now offer services to foreign aircrafts that require maintenance and upgrade- President Museveni
πPresident Yoweri Museveni has welcomed other countriesβ aircrafts that need maintenance and upgrade to be done at Nakasongola Air base. The President made the remarks Tuesday while commissioning an upgraded Russian type MI 24 gunship and attack helicopter, overhauled in Uganda for the first time ever by Heli Plant International Services Limited. He cited Brazil and Latin America that could also βbenefit from the services of the facilityβ.
βWhich is better? To do it there or here in Uganda? Of course, what is common sense is not always common,β he said.
He commended the Managing Director of National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) Lt Gen James Mugira for supporting the idea that has seen the overhaul of the βattack and low-capacity troop transport helicopterβ come to completion. Minister of Defense, Vincent Ssempijja echoed that heads of State who have visited the facility have expressed interest to bring their equipment for maintenance and overhaul.
πΊπ¬ Minister Agness Nandutu remanded to Luzira Prison over ‘dealing with suspect property’
πThe State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agnes Nandutu has been remanded to Luzira Prison until May 3, 2023, by the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo. Nandutu was also committed to the High Court to stand trial over the alleged diversion of iron sheets meant for the people of Karamoja. Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe slapped on her charges of dealing with suspect property contrary to Section 21a (1) of the Anti Corruption Act 2009. Asiimwe said she could not hear her bail application following her committal to the High Court.
βI have instructions from the DPP to have the suspect committed to the High Court for trial. The committal papers are before you, my Lord,β said State Attorney David Bisamunyu. He said Nanduttu could only apply for bail in the High Court.
πΊπ¬ Armed beggar remanded to Luzira Prison over illegal possession of firearm
πThe Buganda Road Court has Wednesday April 19,Β 2023 remanded the street armed beggar, Hamza Kintu alias Mayambala Mugabi to Luzira Prison. Mayambala was charged with unlawful possession of a gun and military fatigue without a valid firearm certificate, contrary to Sections 3(1) and 2(a) of the Firearm Act (as amended). He appearedΒ in a wheelchair before Magistrate Grade One HW Siena Owomugisha but denied all the charges preferred to him by the State prosecution led by Lydia Nakato. He has been remanded to Luzira until May 8, 2023 when he will return to Court for prosecution witness hearing. He was arrested by Security operatives on Tuesday April 4, 2023 in a wheelchair while begging on Kampala streets outside Kalungi Plaza in the central business district.

πThe Uganda National Roads Authority has acquired a new fleet of mobile station trucks βto support road maintenance operationsβ and ensure efficient service delivery across Ugandaβs road network. UNRA spokesperson Allan Ssempebwa says the fleet will enable on-site repairs especially in remote areas during emergencies.

The Association Europea De Abogados (AEA) also known as the International Lawyers Network operates in 149 countries across the globe with 761 offices. Counsel Kashillingi confirmed his appointment in a social media tweet.
πΊπ¬ RUKUNGIRI: Rwenshama residents throw faecal material into Lake Edward for lack of toilet facilities
πRwenshama fishing village in Bwambara sub county, Rukungiri District is on the spot for living an unhygienic way of life even in these modern times. The fishing village lacks toilet facilities and is at the verge of contracting water-borne diseases. Rwenshama parish LC1 chairperson Kenneth Mugisha says the toilets that were constructed four months ago have all collapsed due to flooding, leaving residents with no option but to use polythene bags and basins to answer natureβs call and later throw them into Lake Edward.
βOur area was badly affected by heavy rains that left over 400 households with no toilets and the few that remained are not enough to accommodate the whole population at the fishing site.”
Kenneth Niwagaba, the LC 11 chairperson has asked the Government to construct ecosan toilets which he says last longer and can survive the flooding conditions of their area.
πΊπ¬ TORORO: Bar owner on the run after assaulting employee to death over missing beer bottles
πA bar owner in Malaba Town Council in Tororo District is on the run after allegedly killing his bar attendant identified as Victor Wesonga, 32, a resident of Malaba North Zone, Malaba Town Council. Eye witnesses say that the victim was beaten to death following his failure to account for some bottles of beer he had sold out.
βThe deceased had been working as a bar attendant in a bar belonging to the suspect, located in Tororo town. It is alleged that on April 15, 2023, at about midnight, the deceased failed to account for some bottles of beer he had sold out. This annoyed his boss who immediately began assaulting him from the said bar,β says Moses Mugwe, Bukedi South Regional Police Spokesperson. Mugwe says the key suspect and his family have fled their home in Malaba Town and are on the run,β Mr Mugwe said. The deceasedβs body was taken to Tororo hospital mortuary for postmortem.
πΊπ¬ MASAKA: Patients in dismay as hospital scraps free food
πMasaka Regional Hospital has scrapped free food for a section of patients and their caretakers, citing financial constraints. The hospital has over the years been offering three meals of porridge mixed with milk for breakfast, and posho and beans as lunch and supper for the patients, with a special meal of Pilao (meat and rice) every Wednesday. Janet Asiimwe, a Diabetic patient at the hospital says she has not had a proper meal over the last weeks.
βI am currently surviving on watery porridge which my caregiver buys at Shs1000 a cup from the market,β she said.
Charles Tumushime, the hospitalβs principal administrator says the hospital can only feed 20 percent of the inpatients who include those in psychiatric wards, without caretakers, and those brought in by Police. Masaka Hospital was constructed in 1927, as a treatment centre for Syphilis and was elevated to a referral in 1995.

π SUDAN: RSF accuses Gen Al-Burhane of ‘violating truce’
πA power struggle between two Sudanese Generals still opposed to calls for a cease-fire, has seen fighting continuing in the capital Khartoum leaving nearly 200 people dead. The paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, had announced that they would commit to a 24-hour truce, to which the Sudan Army led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane said it wasn’t aware of. The RSF accuses Gen Al-Burhane who has been in charge since the 2021 coup, of ‘violating the truce’ as his men continue to provoke exchange of fire on Khartoum streets.
