πΊπ¬Β Inspectorate of Govt releases 1394 names implicated in corruptionΒ
πThe Inspector GeneralΒ of GovernmentΒ Betty Kamya has released a list of 1394 names who were fined by the Court for involvement in all forms of corruption while others were implicated in theft of Governemt funds. The IGG spokesman, Ali Munira said the office already issued an order to the people to return the money but they did not follow the order.
πΊπ¬ Police applauds drivers of buses and mini buses for discipline on the roads during Easter season
πPolice has applauded drivers of buses and mini buses, also known as coasters, for keeping the safety of passengers during the Easter period. The Traffic Spokesperson Faridah Nampima says no passangers died in the medium buses and heavy buses.
βWe thank all those people who drive buses and coasters for the discipline you exhibited during this Easter seasonβ, she said.

πInformation obtained from Bbiina B and upper Bbiina zone, near St. James Catholic Parish in Luzira Parish, Nakawa Division where one Farouk Hamza Mayambala, 43, aka Anthony Tony Kintu, the ‘begger’ arrested by Police last week stays, revelas that everyday, he boards a taxi to the city centre, and pays Shs 8000 for him and his helper. Neighbors say that Mayambala pays rent of Shs 120,000 per month which he pays annually in lumpsum, hires two workers whom he pays a monthly allowance; and that he always has huge sums of money in the house which he counts and puts in a polythene which he leaves hanging inside the wall of his house. He was found in possesion of several smart phones and also a ‘Canon’ type of camera. Other sources say that he had started a business worth Shs 7MΒ for one Cathy, a new girlfriend he had got before she robbed him; and that his previous three workers, on separate occassions, robbed him of money totalling to Shs 6M. Mayambala everyday carried his gun and pistol under his wheel chair as he headed for ‘work’.

πThe Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa has said the West Nile region would soon be connected to the national grid and that the current demand for power is 11 megawatts which will even be excess.
“The suffering is soon coming to an end because we are building the infrastructure for power to be delivered to the people of West Nile. Anyone can go and see the substations and pylons we are building at Muni and Nebbi that will bring power in this region. This is not theory. Iβm talking practically,β NankabirwaΒ said.
πΊπ¬ Ministry of Health to launch free mosquito net distribution campaign
πThe Ministry of Health is yet to launch a mosquito net distribution campaign. The Ministry targets to have all citizens sleep under a mosquito net to prevent Malaria. According to the Uganda National Institute of Public Health (UNIPH) study, long-lasting insecticide treated nets are the ones recommended by the World Health Organization to reduce malaria transmission. Uganda will commemorate World Malaria Day on April 25.

πThe Ntungamo Chief Magistrateβs Court has Tuesday adjourned a case of seven Kyamate Senior Secondary School students in Ntungamo Municipality over alleged murder and arson of a student at the school. Magistrate Gordon Muhimbise adjourned the case until May 16, 2023, and said that investigations are still going on.Β As for one of the suspectsβ parents who had complained to the Magistrate that his son was a juvenile and should not be jailed with the adult suspects, the child was examined and found to be old enough.

πPolice in Hoima City have embarked on arresting people involved in child labor in an effort to fight the vice. Beatrice Abiria, the officer in charge of the child and family protection unit at Kinubi Police Station noted that child labor is rising in the city at an alarming rate and that the operation is expected to go on upside to May.

πUganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has warned residents neighboring Elgon National Park against illegal activities being carried out in the park. The UWA Communication Manager, Bashir Hangi identified activities including charcoal burning, encroachment and many others.Β He urged communities not to involve themselves in illegal activities like poaching and wildlife trafficking citing that everyone has a role to play in conserving the wildlife in these parks.

π KENYA: President Ruto’s Govt won’t borrow money to pay salaries
πPresident William Ruto has said his Government will not borrow money to pay the delayed civil servantsβ salaries. This comes even as civil servants are set to go on strike to press the government to pay salary arrears.
βI know we have an issue of delayed salaries. It is the first time that we are having delayed salaries but it is also the first time that we are having such monumental debts, All I assure the country is the commitment I made that we are not going to borrow money to spend on recurrent expenditure including salaries. That is the position of the Government of Kenya.β Ruto Said.

πUN Secretary general AntΓ³nio Guterres has said the people of Somalia are the greatest victims of climate change despite not contributing to it; as the UN launched a multi-billion dollar appeal for Somalia where millions are facing famine.
βSo I call on donors, and I call on the international community to step up their support to urgently fund the 2023 humanitarian response plan, which is currently just 15% funded,β Guterres said.
π Sudan anticipated civilian Government won’t come forth as parties miss ‘transitional’ deadline
πSudanese civilian groups and the ruling government have missed a deadline to form a civilian-led transitional government amid disagreements on security reforms and other issues. According to a timeline set up by the parties, a new prime minister and other government posts should have been announced on Tuesday 11th April. The deadline lapsed after the parties twice failed to sign a final transition deal over disagreements on the integration of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) into the army. A joint committee from the military and RSF, which was set up to discuss contentious issues, reportedly suspended the talks for one day for further consultations.

πSouth African Opposition Party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called on Indian Police to arrest and prosecute Dalai Lama for child abuse after a video of his inappropriate interaction with a boy went viral. In the clip, the 87-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader is seen kissing a young boy on the lips and asking him to suck his tongue at a public event. Following an international outcry over the issue, Dalai Lama has apologized, saying that he regretted the incident. In a statement, the party said the Indian authorities need to send a stern warning to all those who dare to harm children that they will be prosecuted harshly regardless of their status.
π South African ‘Facebook rapist’ who faked own death arrested in TanzaniaΒ Β
πA rapist and murderer who escaped a South African prison by faking his own death has been re-arrested in Tanzania. Thabo Bester was at large for a year after it was thought he died by setting himself on fire in his prison cell in Mangaung Correctional Centre in the city of Bloemfontein. He was re-arrested on Friday with his girlfriend and will be extradited to South Africa. Bester is known as the βFacebook rapistβ for using the social networking site to lure his victims.
