πThe House of Bishops sitting in Kisoro have announced Rev. Canon Godfrey Kasana as the 4th Bishop of Luweero Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on July 16, 2023, at St. Markβs Cathedral, Luweero. Rev. Barnabas Tibaijuka has also been elected the 1st Bishop of West Rwenzori Diocese, which will be officially launched in Bundibugyo on August 27,Β 2023, the day he will be consecrated and enthroned as the 1st Bishop of the Diocese.
πΊπ¬ UPDF takes control of Bunagana town as M23 withdrawsΒ
πUganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) under East African Community Regional Forces (EACRC) in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Sunday officially occupied areas of Bunagana in eastern DRC for a peacekeeping mission after M23 rebels surrendered the area.Β Capt. Ahmad Hassan Kato, the Spokesperson for the EACRF Uganda contingent said Sunday that UPDF has deployed in the general areas of Bunagana where they have set a foothold as they give M23 time to vacate the general areas of Rutshuru, Kiwanja and Mabenga as agreed.
πΊπ¬ CCTV footage free of charge- Enanga
πUganda Police force on Monday said that CCTV footages and other printeries are free of charge. During a Security Press brief at Police Naguru headquarters, Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson clarified that paying for the footage would be soliciting and encouraged the public to freely report such acts to the Police Standards Unit (PSU). He enlisted services that are charged by police including security screening, certificate verifications, band, firearms permits, police aircraft and police escorts among others.

πUganda Air Cargo Corporation (UACC) General ManagerΒ Lt. Gen Nakibus Lakara has said that since its establishment of cargo services in 1994, Air cargo Corporation has been serving the whole of Africa and beyond as its activities complement those of the National Carrier, Uganda Airlines. Lakara’s clarification follows public criticism that Air Cargo is engaged in partial competition with Uganda Airlines.

πAndrew Rotich Kwemoi on Saturday became the first ever Ugandan to win the 21st Enel Milano Marathon in Italy with a time of 2:7:14 .The Ugandan preceded the Kenyan Timothy Kipkorir Kattam (2:7:53) and the Rwandan John Hakizimana (2:8:18). Over 6,500 participants ran the individual marathon, while more than 16,500 people took part in the non-competitiveΒ marathon to support non-profit organisations.

πPolice in Yumbe has arrested Tokora Kasifa, a resident of Marigo village, Joke parish in Arilo Sub County for allegedly throwing her just born baby in a pit latrine.Β At around 1800 hrs, someone who was going to ease herself had a baby crying and immediately alerted the Police and residents of the areaΒ who rescued it. Doctors at Yumbe Hospital have confirmed that the child is stable and responding to treatment.

π Kenya set to launch first operational earth observation satelliteΒ
πThe Kenya Space Agency (KSA) is set to launch Kenyaβs first operational 3U Earth Observation satellite, Taifa-1 satellite, on April 11, 2023. The launch, which is set to be aided by Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX), will take place in Vandenberg Base, California. According to a joint statement from the Ministry of Defence and KSA on Monday, the mission is designed to provide precise and timely earth observation satellite data to stakeholders in the diverse fields of application including agriculture and food security.
π South Sudan troops join regional force in Eastern DRC
πSouth Sudanese soldiers have arrived in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, joining a regional military force in an area battered by the M23 rebellion. The troops are part of the seven-nation East African Community (EAC) military force, which was created last June to stabilise eastern DRC.

π DRC: Landslide kills 19Β in eastern DRC
πLocal officials in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo say a landslide killed at least 19 people on Sunday morning. An official in the village of Bulwa in North Kivu province said the death toll was likely to rise. He said some members of a group of women and children who had been washing laundry in a mountain stream were buried after the ground collapsed beneath them. The region has been battered for months by heavy rains which have triggered flooding and mudslides.

πRwandaβs ruling party, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi) on Sunday elected its first woman vice chairperson as President Paul Kagame retained the chairmanship position. Consolee Uwimana was elected by 1,945 votes, about 93% of the votes cast. Analysts say promoting her is the partyβs way of giving more power to women and keeping the ethnicity quota balanced in its top leadership.

πSouth Africaβs main Opposition party, the Democratic Alliance Sunday re-elected John Steenhuisen as its leader as it campaigns to unseat the ruling African National Congress (ANC) in next yearβs national elections. He will lead the party for the next three years. In his acceptance speech, Steenhuisen said the DA will work with other like-minded parties ahead of the 2024 elections. He, however, ruled out working with the ruling ANC and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the upcomingΒ elections.
