πRev. Canon Godfrey Mbitse has been enthroned as the 3rd Bishop of the Diocese of Muhabura in Kisoro District. Canon Mbitse has replaced Rt. Rev. Cranmer Mugisha who in 2021 sought early retirement. Vice President Jessica Alupo who represented President Museveni at the function encouraged Christians toΒ embrace Government programs that will enable them to fight poverty.

πGovernment has flagged off a tractor scheme in Karamoja subregion to aid agriculture thereby curbing the hunger crisis. While flagging off the scheme on Saturday at Lokapel village, the Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze encouraged the Karamajong to diversify from animal rearing to crop growing to eliminate humger and poverty at household level.

πΊπ¬ Six remanded for stealing palm oil
πPolice has arrested six men for allegedly stealing 30 jerrycans of palm oil from a business woman in Kasese District. Dan Mumbere, Siphasi Tukundane and four others, broke into a store owned by Christine Masika in Kigoro cell trading centre, Nyamwamba division, and took off with the jerricans of the oil.Β Presided over by Kasese Chief Magistrate Betty Ajok, Court remanded them to Mubuku Government Prison until April 12. According to Nyamwamba Division LC3 chairperson Pimako Kasereka, who also heads the division security committee, the suspects have been terrorizing the community and are among those on the wanted list.

π The Police have discovered a decomposing body with hands tightly bound together in a ranch at Nyanga village in Rurambira parish, Nyakashashara sub-county, Kiruhura District. The victim was identified as Charles Barigye, 67, who was commonly known as Kachecheba, renown in the community for his knowledge of traditional medicine. Barigyeβs family had lost contact with him, and his phone went off from March 16, 2023.

πPolice in Rubanda District has arrested three women in connection with the alleged murder of a 36 year old man identified as Agaba Kakambwe, a resident of Rwamahano village in Ikumiro Parish, Muko sub county in Rubanda District. The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate identified the suspects as Twikiirize Jeninah, Hope Tumuramye and Norah Kyabazage. It is alleged that Twikirize Jeninah, the wife to the deceased went to Mukajagi Trading Center in Rwamahano village, found the husband in a bar seated with one Rebbecca whom she suspected to have an affair with him. A fight ensued but during the scuffle, the deceased decided to run home to pick a panga but before reaching, he allegedly fell down and died under peculiar circumstances.
πΊπ¬ IBANDA: S.4 student drowns in river during study trip
πPolice is investigating how Caroline Natamba,19, a senior four student at St. Veronica Secondary School in Rushango Town Council drowned and died in Rushango River during a Geography study trip. Rwizi Regional Police Spokesman Samson Kasasira says that preliminary investigations indicate that while at the river, some of the students including the deceased started swimming and during the process, the deceased failed to support herself and drowned.

πΒ KENYA: Raila Odinga defies calls to halt protests as Gov’t threatens action
πThe Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has defied calls to halt anti-Government protests scheduled for Monday, despite a Government ban citing public safety and property damage. Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua earlier on Sunday issued a stern warning to Odinga against holding continuous demonstrations in Kenya.
βThe Government will assert its authority and protect lives and property on Monday,” he said.

π BURUNDI: Atleast 13 goldminers killed in flooded pitsΒ
πBodies of 13 gold miners have been recovered from two pits in which they were trapped by flood water. NicodΓ¨me Ndahabonyimana, a district administrator in the northwestern province of Cibitoke, said the miners could not be saved after the pits collapsed Friday night amid torrential rainfall.
βThe bodies of two other miners who were missing and presumed dead have not been recovered”, he said.

The 86-year-old’s admittance to hospital on Wednesday with breathing difficulties sparked concerns he may not be well enough to attend a series of rites in the most important week on the Christian calendar. He looked serious as he followed the procession through St Peter’s Square of religious figures, including red-robed cardinals, carrying large palm leaves and olive branches.
