πŸ“ŒThe Ministry of Health has assured the public that Government is committed to ensuring that the Marburg virus disease does not spread into the country. Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health Minister says interventions, including setting up of screening centers, have been instituted to keep the virus at bay. She said that Uganda has enough experience in handling such outbreaks should the virus be reported in the country. Acheng made the remarks during a visit to Mutukula, Uganda’s border with Tanzania in the Kagera region.

Odongo, said Uganda welcomes the designation of the national carrier by Rwandan authorities which will lead to the beginning of direct flights from Entebbe to Kigali.

πŸ“ŒThe Uganda Allied Health Examinations Board (UAHEB) has released results for candidates who sat last year in November and December. While releasing the results, the Board Executive Secretary, Joseph Angondua noted that the general performance has improved albeit with a few cases of malpractice. πŸ“ŒMs. Rebecca Nakintu, the head teacher of Lwenkuba Primary School and Mr. Samuel Kityo of Makoomi Primary School are in police custody after reportedly registering ghost pupils in their schools. According to the Bukomansimbi deputy resident district commissioner, Fred Kalema says Nakintu registered 462 pupils yet the school has only 30 pupils as daily attendance while Kityo enrolled 580 pupils yet the school has only 108 pupils. This was during an on spot inspection of the schools on Friday.

🌍 KENYA: Criminal Investigations apologizes to Kenyans over ‘image mix up’ blunder
πŸ“ŒKenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) through their social media pages on Saturday apologized for what they termed as a mix-up of images and blamed it on ‘overwhelming information’ received from the public. DCI on Friday launched a manhunt for suspects alleged to have engaged in acts of violence during the Monday protests. However, it has emerged that some of the images shared on the DCI page were misleading as they were not taken during last week’s protests as alleged but as as far back as 10 years ago.

At a meeting on Friday chaired by President Paul Kagame, ministers approved his proposal to amend the constitution, allowing for the harmonization of parliamentary and presidential election calendars. The polls are now expected to take place in August next year, the date originally set for the presidential election.

πŸ“ŒPaul Rusesabagina, a former hotel manager portrayed as a hero in the Hollywood film Hotel Rwanda, has been released from prison in Kigali. He was, two years ago sentenced to 25 years for terrorism by a Rwandan court in what supporters called a sham trial. A Government spokesperson said Mr Rusesabagina’s sentence had been β€œcommuted by prsesidential order”. Mr Rusesabagina, 68, is credited with saving some 1,200 people during the 1994 genocide. US President Joe Biden called the news of his release a happy outcome.

🌍 More than 30 migrants missing off Tunisia coast 
πŸ“ŒOfficial’s in Tunisia say that at least 34 African migrants including babies and children are missing after their boat capsized off the Tunisian city of Sfax. It’s the fifth such shipwreck in the past two days. A total of 67 people have been reported missing. Tunisian officials say there’s been a sharp rise in boats carrying would-be migrants towards Italy.
