πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ North Kigezi Diocese Bishop-Elect to be consecrated on Sunday
πŸ“ŒNorth Kigezi Diocese Bishop-elect Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe will on Sunday March 12, 2023 be consecrated and enthroned as the 6th Bishop of Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Southern Division Rukungiri Municipality. The function will be presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu. Thousands of Christians in the Diocese of North Kigezi gathered at Kahenge River that borders Rukungiri and Ntungamo districts to welcome Bishop Asiimwe. The procession was led by the North Kigezi Diocesan caretaker Bishop Patrick Tugume Tusingweire, former Archbishop of Church of Uganda Emeritus Henry Luke Orombi, Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, RDC Rukungiri District Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen, Rukungiri District LC5 Chairman and other religious leaders in and outside North Kigezi Diocese.

πŸ“Œ President Yoweri Museveni has Saturday left for Algeria for a three-day State visit on the invitation of his Algerian counterpart PresidentΒ  Abdelmadjid Tebboune. During the State visit, President Museveni and his host will witness the signing of a number of memorandum of understanding between various sectors of the two countries.
β€œI have travelled to Algiers, Algeria for a 3-Day State Visit at the invitation of H.E Abdelmadjid Tebboune. I look forward to having fruitful discussions with him to enhance our bilateral relations for the prosperity and interests of our people,” the President said.
The two Presidents will also attend the first-ever business forum between Algeria and Uganda in Algiers.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ Students who torched Kyamate dormitory block charged with 180 counts
πŸ“Œ Seven Senior Three students from Kyamate Secondary School in Ntungamo
Municipality, Ntungamo District were Friday charged with 180 offences, allegedly committed when they torched a dormitory block, killing one student instantly. The suspects, Kanyesigye Odongo Odamal, Arinatwe Anthony, Tumwesigye Arnold, Arinaitwe Elijah, Asiimwe Joshua, Tumushabe Wilber, and Twesigye Lawrence were remanded to Ntungamo Government Prison and one of them, a minor, to Kabale Remand Home. During their Court appearance before Ntungamo Grade One Magistrate, Mariam Namubiru, the suspects were charged with murder, attempted murder, arson, and malicious damage. The charges stem from an incident on February 26 2023, when the prime suspect, Tumushabe Wilber, orchestrated the whole plan and tied the late Bonus Atukwase, a Senior One Student, to the bed before setting the dormitory ablaze, instantly killing him. The arsonists are also charged with three counts of attempted murder, one count of arson, and malicious damage of property and 196 beds valued at Ugx 457,000,000 (Four hundred fifty-seven million).Β  Prosecution heard that Tumushabe collaborated with the other suspects to deliver petrol to the school on the night of February 26, 2023, which they used to light a fire that destroyed Nyerere and Mandela dormitories, housing 146 students. The fire left one student dead and three others nursing injuries. The suspects will re appear in Court for mention of their case on March 27, 2023.

πŸ“ŒLubaga Hospital has been accredited by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS). The hospital ED, Dr. Julius Luyimbazi revealed that the facility has the capacity to carry out 34 tests in all categories of haematology, micro-biology, clinical chemistry, immunology and parasitology. The Commissioner in-charge of National Health Laboratory Services at the Ministry of Health Dr. Susan Nabadda said this is a step in the right direction in regard to the timely and accurate diagnostic services.

πŸ“ŒThe Mukono High Court Judge, Collins Acellan has dismissed the petition filed by Ritah Nabadda challenging the election of Hon. AidaΒ  Nantaba as the Kayunga District Woman MP. The Court said that the petitioner did not collect enough voter’s signatures which is one of the requirements for the suit. The Court also dismissed an allegation of voter bribery at Kabatani village in Galiraaya sub-county. The court ordered all the parties to cater for their own costs.

πŸ“ŒTheΒ  Government of Uganda, in partnership with the German Government, has embarked on the construction of a piped water supply system in Zombo Town Council, Zombo District. The project, which will cost Ugx5.3 billion, is aimed at ensuring clean water reaches the residents of Zombo Town Council and the neighbouring sub-counties of Nyapea and Athuma through the construction of reservoir tanks at Aliza and Ajere hills. King Albert Construction Engineering Company on Thursday received the project projected to be completed within one year.

🌍 KENYA: Over 5,000 Govt services available online
πŸ“ŒImmigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has said 5,318 services can now be accessed via mobile phones with the Government targetingΒ  doubling the figure by the middle of the year.
β€œOne of the examples of services that have gone digital is marriages. If you want to get married, you can now apply for a marriage certificate from the comforts of your phone where you apply online, go for interviews and get your marriage certificate online,” Prof Bitok said.

🌍 RWANDA: Proceedings against Genocide suspect Kabuga on hold
πŸ“ŒJudges at a UN Court in The Hague have put proceedings against Rwandan genocide suspect Felicien Kabuga on hold in order to assess whether he is in good-enough health to be tried. When the case opened, prosecutors accused him of using his radio station to urge ethnic Hutus to kill rival Tutsis. He was also accused of supplying death squads with machetes. Earlier this week Mr. Kabuga’s defence team called for the 90-year old’s trial to be halted, citing dementia.

🌍 NIGERIA: UN condemns suspected Islamist attack 
πŸ“ŒThe UN has condemned an ambush and brutal killing of at least 37 civilians in Mukdolo village in Ngala Local Government Area of Nigeria’s north-eastern Borno State. Dozens of villagers were shot dead in an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants. In a statement, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Matthias Schmale, noted that the victims of the heinous attack were fishermen and farmers eking out a livelihood in a very insecure environment.

🌍 US Secretary of State to visit Ethiopia next week
πŸ“ŒUS Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is set to visit Ethiopia next week to discuss the implementation of a landmark peace deal which has halted the country’s civil war, the State Department said on Friday. The visit could be a positive sign for the country, which was hit by US sanctions as the war weakened ties between the once close allies. Mr. Blinken will also meet African Union head Moussa Faki Mahamat in Addis Ababa to discuss global and regional priorities.
