πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ UNEB releases 2022 UCE results, candidates perform better than last year
πŸ“ŒThe Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released 2022 UCE results. Candidates who sat the 2022 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams performed better than the previous year. The UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo said there was an improvement in performance in the large entry subjects except in Christian Religious Education, Biology and Commerce.
“A total of 329,939 candidates passed UCE exams in 2022 compared to the 311,233 who passed the previous year,”, said Odongo.

πŸ“ŒThe Ministry of Health has endorsed an Ebola Virus Disease post-outbreak recovery plan which will offer a road map for the next six months to guide towards heightening surveillance, supporting survivors and strengthening health systems to manage existing issues and preventing future outbreaks, among others. Priorities include enhancing surveillance, infection control and community engagement to prevent future outbreaks. The plan will cost at least 120.2 billion shillings.

πŸ“ŒThe State Minister of Gender and Cultural Affairs, Peace Mutuuzo has implored the Ministry of Education to incorporate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) issues in the school curriculum. Mutuuzo made the remarks at the national commemoration of the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation in Kampala. She said this will help learners, especially girls to be aware of the dangers of FGM at an early stage thus helping Government fight the vice.

Speaking to the press this week, Dr. Moriku said homosexuality is illegal in the country and will not be allowed in schools at any cost. She warned that those found promoting the vice shall face the law.

πŸ“ŒPolice in Busia District on Tuesday arrested four people including a one Suleiman Wandera, a witch doctor over suspected human sacrifice. According to Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South Police Spokesperson, the quartet was arrested at Namaubi B village, Dabani sub-county over the murder of Richard Ocheng 38, a resident of Paya in Tororo District. The Namaubi B Village chairperson Ibrahim Muluku said that the witchdoctor was found with body parts of the deceased, including toes in a grain store.

🌍 KENYA: Police refutes alleged raid on Ex-interior Minister
πŸ“ŒThe head of Kenya Police Service has disowned a reported operation on the home of former Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i in Nairobi on Wednesday night. Inspector General Japhet Koome told journalists that no officers under the National Police Service were sent to the former minister’s residence. The ex-minister’s lawyer had on Wednesday said that Mr. Matiang’i was holed up in his home and accused the Government of trying to falsely accuse and frame his client. Opposition leader Raila Odinga and a host of politicians arrived at the home for a night vigil following the incident. He said Police had surrounded Mr Matiangi’s home and criticized what he described as β€œthe return of midnight arrests without charges”.

🌍  South Sudan and Kenya discuss ‘mutual border’ issues
πŸ“ŒSouth Sudan on Wednesday summoned Kenya’s envoy to Juba Samwel Nandwa to protest an alleged encroachment on its territory. A statement issued by South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation says Juba wants a diplomatic solution but wants the two countries to address a border dispute with Kenya.
β€œThe Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon Mayiik Ayii Deng, met with the Kenyan Ambassador to South Sudan (Samuel Nandwa) to discuss areas of mutual concern. Issues concerning our mutual border were raised,”  a statement read.

πŸ“ŒAlgeria, Egypt and Tunisia are among African Union countries that have sent aid and technical assistance to the Turkish-Syrian border. Kenya has committed to sending aid and called on trained medical workers to volunteer their services. Africa’s largest non-governmental humanitarian organisation, Gift of the Givers, has also dispatched teams of rescue workers and equipment to help international rescue effort. More than 11,000 people in southern Turkey and northern Syria have been killed in the 7.8 magnitude quake, with officials quoting 8,574 deaths in Turkey and 2,660 people confirmed dead in Syria.

πŸ“ŒA Chinese-owned private security firm has been closed in Mozambique’s port city of Beira for alleged involvement in money laundering.The Attorney General’s office (PGR) accuses the owner of Panda Security, Jiye Zhuo, of defrauding the State of about $13m (Β£11m) through tax evasion. Another of his firms, the Thian Hai petrol station was closed by the authorities two months ago, also on allegations of money laundering.The PGR also suspects him of financing terrorism, forging documents, conspiracy and environmentalΒ crimes.
