๐บ๐ฌ President Museveni awarded Katonga Star Medal at Tarehe Sita celebrations
๐President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was on Monday awarded the highest Katonga star medal during the 42nd Tarehe Sita Celebrations in Mbarara.ย The star medal was decorated on to him by Chief justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo. The Katonga medal is the highest military decoration according to the Ugandan Honours system. President Museveni becomes the third person to get the Katonga star medal after the late Col. Muammer Gadafi who was awarded on April 6 2004.
๐บ๐ฌ UPDFย in Somalia cleans Marina Market in commemoration of Tarehe Sita
๐Uganda Peoplesโ Defence Forces (UPDF) in Somalia, serving under African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), have conducted activities in commemoration of the 42nd Tarehe Sita in Mogadishu and Ceeljaale regions of Somalia. UPDF Contingent Commander Brig Gen Peter Gaetano Omola led the troops to clean Marina Market. The UPDF back home is today celebrating the 42nd Tarehe Sita anniversary held at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara District.ย Deputy Defence Spokesperson, Colonel Deo Akiiki has pledged thatย the UPDF remains committed to supporting the countryโs social-economic initiatives. This yearโs Tarehe Sita celebrations have been under the theme “Recognising the sacrifice of the founders of the people’s revolution for Social Economic Transformation.”

๐Makerere University is mourning the demise of one of its students, Emmanuel Wamono, who drowned in a swimming pool while trying to save a child. It is alleged that theย incident occurred while he was trying to save a child in a swimming pool at Mountain Inn Hotel in Mbale. Theย late Wamono was a 3rd year electrical engineering student and a resident of Livingstone Hall. Makerere University Dean of Students Winifred Kabumbuli shared the sad news in a letter addressed to the University community.

๐A 24 year old man has killed his father, Wilson Masai, 70, a resident of Bumakuma village, Buwatuwa parish in Buwatuwa sub county after chopping off his head for allegedly refusing to give him more land to sell. Sam Kundu, the LC3 chairperson confirmed that the suspect who is currently on the run has been identified as one Wetaya.

๐ KENYA: SMEs to access up to Sh2.5m Hustler Fund loans this month
๐Kenyaโs Government has said the Hustler Fund loans of up to Sh2.5 million for small and micro enterprises will be ready by end of the month of February. The Cooperatives and SMEs Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui explains the loans will be disbursed through saving and credit co-operative societies (Saccos) and commercial banks.

Several scans showed that she was host to something metallic in her abdomen and she was booked for the theatre at Maragua Level Four hospital in Murang’a County. Dr. Kairo Kimende, the hospitalโs medical superintendent who led the surgical team explained that after a two-hour procedure, an old surgical blade was removed.

๐Kenya will start to import fertilisers from Tanzania next year to help alleviate the shortage and save the country from the high cost of importing fertiliser from overseas. Speaking in Dodoma on Friday, Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi said the shortage of fertiliser and the cost of importing the product could be solved by the newly established factory in Tanzania which produces fertiliser.

๐According to the study, released in January and titled โโAir Transport Services Liberalisation in the East African Community, Focusing on Drivers and Regulationsโโ, that was carried out by the East African Business Council (EABC), TradeMark Africa (TMA) and the Government of the Netherlands shows that South Sudanโs Juba International Airport has the heaviest costs for travellers and transporters. EABC chief executive John Kalisa attributes the costs to the lack of well-developed infrastructure and qualified personnel to control the airspace.

๐ Two Genocide suspects to appear in Brussels Courtย
๐Two fugitives of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Pierre Basabose and Seraphin Twahirwa, will appear before Court in the Belgium in June this year.
Their first hearing is scheduled for June 12. The draw of the jury will take place on October 4 and the trial itself will start on October 9. The two men were arrested in September 2020 and according to Court, the two files have been merged. Both cases concern crimes committed in Kigali, in the Gikondo and Kacyiru sectors.
๐ Attack on UN helicopter in Central Africa kills 1
๐A United Nations peacekeeper from South Africa was killed and another wounded in an attack on their helicopter in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday. The source of the fire that struck the helicopter was not yet known and its precise location had yet to be determined, said Amadou Ba, a spokesman for the UN mission in the DRC (MONUSCO).

๐South Africa has recorded two confirmed imported cases of Cholera, the health department said on Sunday, as it called for vigilance. The cases were of sisters who had in January travelled to Malawi.
โBoth patients had developed symptoms on their return to Johannesburg,โ the health department said in a statement.

๐Maliโs Government has given the head of the UN peacekeeping Missions Human Rights Division 48 hours to leave the country. In a statement read out on National Television, a Government spokesman said Guillaume Ngefa-Atondoko Andali had committed โsubversive actionsโ in his selection of witnesses to testify at UN Security Council briefings on Mali.
๐ 7.8 magnitude quake hits southern Turkey
๐A major 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit southeastern Turkey on Monday, the US Geological Survey said, levelling buildings across several cities and causing damage in neighbouring Syria. The quake struck at a depth of about 17.9 kilometres (11 miles), with a 6.7-magnitude aftershock striking 15 minutes later. Turkey’s AFAD emergencies service centre put the first quake’s magnitude at 7.4. Authorities have not listed casualties yet.
“I convey my sympathies to all our citizens who were affected by the earthquake,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan tweeted.
